Installed Edubuntu for my kid yesterday. Thus far, he loves it. The LiveCD worked pretty smoothly, too, even recognizing and connecting to my wireless network (once I entered the proper credentials).

It's less than 24 hours old, but it gets a big thumbs up from the Pasty household thus far.

Glad to hear it's getting endorsed. I'm setting up a machine for my four year-old next month with it.

So let me ask this, if I have Ubuntu on my kid's system, can I simply download these extra programs and turn it into Edubuntu?

I really don't know it seems that edubuntu is more based on KDE. Now I maybe totally wrong, but you shuld be able to install the kiddy stuff. Calling eaux-yeah

Don't call on me, I don't have Edubuntu installed nor am I certified to do so :mwink:.
The only time I messed with it (once) was to help out CM out with it.
How's that running BTW?

So let me ask this, if I have Ubuntu on my kid's system, can I simply download these extra programs and turn it into Edubuntu?I did notice that it added a lot of stuff for teachers, like LTSP (http://wiki.ltsp.org/twiki/bin/view/Ltsp/WebHome) (which I love) and schooltool (http://www.schooltool.org), and other weird teacher/classroom stuff. I don't like all of the services that are started by default, though. (don't remember them all)

The main stuff they 'show off' in the screenshots for the kids is Gcompris (http://gcompris.net/-en-). I know that you can add that straight from the Ubuntu reository.
So basically what I am trying to say is, sure....I don't see why not?
