13-year-old cancer patient lived his dream introducing New Orleans Saints first-round draft pick

By Terrance Harris

As teenagers go, 13-year-old Markell Gregoire is about as unflappable as they come.

He has a smile that brightens a room and he is quick to let anyone know he has the "swagger" to support his radiant personality. But even this teenager from Iberia Parish, who is never at a loss for bold statements, was rendered speechless for a brief moment last month when he received the call and invitation of a lifetime.

Gregoire, who has gone through his share of ups and downs as a cancer patient, knew this phone call was special when he saw the big smile on his mother, Monique's, face as she handed him the phone. The voice on the other end of the phone informed Gregoire that not only was he headed to New York City to be part of the NFL draft but that he would be introducing the first-round selection of his favorite team, the New Orleans Saints.

"I figured it was somebody who wanted to interview me or something but then when they started explaining it to me, I was speechless," Gregoire recalled recently in a conversation with NOLA.com. "Then all of a sudden I started rolling on the floor.

Mike Triplett, NOLA.com: Definitely Rob Ryan and the defensive changes. I want to see how guys are being used, what they think of the new defense and Ryan's style/personality. Hopefully we'll get to talk to Ryan as well, though I don't know if that will be the case.

As I mentioned earlier, I'm particularly interested in seeing how the OLBs and Ss develop and enjoy their roles in the new D.

About 2 months ago I started seeing ads for "Visual COBOL", and I've since discovered that there is something called "NetCOBOL", which is basically COBOL.NET and compiles into MSIL.

Then today I see this article on Tom's Hardware.

IBM released a new compiler for mainframe applications written in COBOL. The company claims that its IBM Enterprise COBOL for z/OS v5.1 has resulted in application performance improvements of 10 to 20 percent, which could deliver processing efficiency and provide reduced operating cost of servers. IBM stated that 200 billion lines of COBOL code are still in use in banking, insurance, retail and human resources industries.

[...]

[T]he new compiler would enable mainframe applications to run in the cloud and, as a result, on phones and tablets.

[...]

According to IBM, the new software includes support for Java 7, new UTF-8 built-ins, debugging enhancements, and support for unbounded tables and groups, as well as a new level of z/OS System Management Facilities (SMF) tracking.

I'd be lying if I said that COBOL was not my favorite non-C language, but I always thought the 'next generation' COBOL would be called POSTINCREMENT COBOL BY 1 GIVING COBOL.

When Drew Brees got to New Orleans after Katrina through projects, and civic activities he put a stamp on the city of New Orleans, letting it be known, the city of New Orleans is Drew Brees'.

I think today Kevin Durant did that today in the wake of the tornados in Oklahoma.

Y! SPORTS

And for those that don't trust Fox:
Kevin Durant of Oklahoma City Thunder to donate $1 million to tornado relief - ESPN

It's refreshing to see guys like Durant, Brees, and Charles Woodson doing things showing that they are just vessels of good, and not self absorbed like so many athletes out there.

Big thumbs up Mr. Durant.

I personally think she's awesome and I love catching clips whenever I can of her show.

I know this video was posted when it happened but I hadn't seen it and it was nearly two years ago and I'm not sure how many of you remember it/have seen it.

I think it's great the team is focused and ready to get to work but her and Drew have a great relationship and I think this would be a really cool thing to do again before this season with her. She came before 2011 and we all remember how that went.

so any ideas on how we could get her to come back to training camp?
I knew there was a lot of turnover each year, but only 29 players left from 2011? Wow...that means over 50% of the actual roster has changed. More than have the roster has never worked with Payton and most of the players will wonder who the heck this guy is-Sean Payton that is.
