Colts' decision on David to influence Saints' first pick
Sheldon Mickles / B.R. Advocate
With only two days left before the NFL draft, the New Orleans Saints are patiently playing the waiting game.
Specifically, they’re waiting to see if cornerback Jason David, a restricted free agent whom they signed to an offer sheet last Thursday, will get to join the Saints or stay with the Indianapolis Colts.
The Colts have until Friday to match the four-year contract the Saints offered David last week. If they decline, the three-year starter would go to the Saints and the Colts would receive one of the Saints’ three fourth-round draft picks as compensation.
That decision by Colts General Manager Bill Polian could determine how the Saints use the 27th pick in the first round and subsequent selections in the second and third rounds. While the Colts haven’t officially said which way they will go, they’re not expected to match the Saints’ offer. Full Story – Advocate
