Saints have plethora of options at No. 27



Lowest first-round pick in team history could snag CB, WR, etc.

With the 27th pick in the 2007 NFL draft, the New Orleans Saints select . . .

OK, we give up.

This is a far cry from last year when Saints fans woke up on draft day like it was Christmas morning, knowing that Reggie Bush had already been gift-wrapped by the Houston Texans.

This year, the Saints have the 27th pick in the first round -- the lowest first-round pick in franchise history. And they could go in about 27 directions.

In fact, we identified 27 possible targets for the Saints inside these pages, weeding out the top prospects and the long shots. Yet we're still only slightly confident that one of those players will be in a Saints' uniform by the end of the day.

There is no use targeting a specific position. The Saints filled their most glaring need Friday when they officially acquired restricted free-agent cornerback Jason David. They filled all of their other pressing needs in February and March.
