Do you feel like Roger Goodell went too far with the Bounty Gate Penalties?

i said none of the above because i feel like Payton and Vitt are being punished for something in lieu of bounty gate....
if the suspension is truly on face value.... than it is excessive, and i will gladly be wrong

This poll is a nice way to weed the trolls out Andrus (I'm assuming you can still see who voted what).

Mike and Mike likened it to the "Death Penalty" that SMU had in the past.
I say too harsh, but they shouda stopped when confronted about it also.
Any ideas if an appeal would do any good???

Who would the Saints appeal to?
Kommisar Goodell has the final say on any appeal to any punishment he imposes.

If players are suspended is that portion of they're salaries added back to available cap money and how does not having early picks affect the rookie cap pool ? How does the rookie cap pool work anyway ?
Thanks, Ben

This kind of reminds me of those situations as a child when an adult told me not to do something and I did it anyways only to be punished for my wrong doing. At the time I of course was incredibly grumpy and felt a huge injustice had been done to me. This is kind of like that. The NO fans may not like it, but there really was no other outcome to the situation. Roger Goodell has pretty much guaranteed that no team will ever do this again. So yes while the penalty is pretty harsh, it was necessary.

Why would a vote determine who the trolls are? I'm sure he didn't start the poll for that reason, I hope not. People are going to have their own opinions Jared, because they may disagree with you does not mean they're trolls. I'm always amazed that people want to post on a board designed to hear opinions and then get so upset to hear one that differs from them.

They aren't being punished for "bounty". They are penalized for admitting they issued what amounts to stickers for the helmet and doing what they (defense) is expected to do. I might add, they haven't done it very well over the last 3 years under Williams. Ugh. Penalized for being average.
Penalized for being a great team.
Penalized for being a great team that could still make the next superbowl, without their head coach, GM, and a hand full of average defensive players.
I am beginning to hate the NFL. It really seems like a conspiracy to me. I know Im not the first to say that. But the league as a whole seems to have a vendetta for making a mockery of football as a whole, and deminish the spectical of the sport. And the league as whole, does not want New Orleans in the next superbowl. The team and fans need to rise up in solidarity against all of this. Win the next superbowl on homefield -- then quit. Fold up and walk away as champions, and give the middle finer in the rear view mirror.

I know my opinion in this case might be unpopular, but; I think the penalty to Payton was too harsh, the penalty to Loomis was kind of mickey mouse since he is being allowed to run the offseason and the draft, if Goodell wanted to punish the Saints he should made Loomis' penalty effective immediately.
I think the penalty to Williams might not be harsh enough, IF it is true he had done a bounty system in Buffalo, Washington, Tennessee, etc.
(selfishly / jokingly) I wish Goodell would have awarded this years 2nd round pick to the Vikings for the attempts to (exaggeration) kill Favre...
In my opinion, if the players involved in this scandal as the masterminds and leading recipients of the bounties just get punished by the league (as opposed the IRS getting involved) they should consider themselves lucky..
I am expecting a lot of thumbs downs and grief for this take, but I will offer this rationale for the above: With the league being under the lawsuit gun over concussions (especially after Dave Duerson) they cannot afford to appear soft in a matter where players were ALLEGEDLY payed money under the table to seriously injure players. Additionally, I am actually (aside from the selfish / joking suggestion above) trying to look at this through objective eyes not purple colored glasses..

I said none of the above because I haven't seen enough evidence to make an educated decision about any of this. I don't think anyone has seen enough evidence either.

entirely too harsh
the punishments have been way out of hand. I could understand if there had been illegal hits taking place, then i would stand behind the punishments, but there wasn't. its football, people get hit. just because they offered incentives to hype up the defense, come on... full season suspensions and loss of draft picks... rediculous.

I put none of the above and that is because he hasn't provided any proof yet. If he comes out and shows the proof then I think I can live with the penalties. If he doesn't then I will always say it's total bs.

I don't know why people think this type of thing is acceptable and not need punishment enough, we got off way too easy if you ask me. The same way you do not encourage pee-wee league coaches to do this type of thing, you do not want the pee-wee league children to look up to these types of role models! No further argument is necessary. Just think about it.
