Damn LSU lost 2 of 3 to App state. Wow. Better wake up.
Tulane sweeps Indiana
ULL sweeps Towson state
SELU sweeps Eastern Illinois.
SELU plays at Tulane Tuesday.
Southeastern is now 7-0 leading into Tuesday matchup at Turchin. Janway looked good today pitching 7 2/3 innings 0 runs on 3 hits. Southeastern is made up of small players who are very good defensively and high percentage on base averages. Not a guerilla ball at all but fundamentally sound with good pitchers. Have won already 3 games by 1 run.

With the new bats, it's probably better to be built like this as a team. Never hurts to have a few power hitters sitting around though. In a low scoring game against elite pitching, a homerun can make all the difference in the world.
LSU was very disappointing the past two days. After last weekends performance, I'm wondering, and kind of hoping, that they just underestimated App. State and came out flat because of it. They're going to have to do better than this. Good news is the season is still very young and the sky is not falling.
Cajuns are most definitely going through their growing pains, especially in the field. 13 errors through 7 games, and thats after a couple of better games Saturday and Sunday. Massively catastrophic single innings cost games against SELU and Santa Clara. We're talking about multiple errors and multiple walks in a single inning leading to almost all unearned runs. We almost clawed back in vs SELU but the Santa Clara game that happened in the bottom of the 8th, so we couldnt recover. If you take those 2 innings away, we're 6-1.
4-3 right now is about where I thought, hoped to maybe be 5-2. We're starting sophomores or freshmen at 5-7 of the 8 positions on a given night, not to mention 4 key pitchers being either fresh/sophs and a lot of first year JUCO's. After Alcorn on Tuesday, we have another solid test this weekend at UTSA's tournament where we face 3 teams with winning records.

They scored 1 run in two games against an average App. State team. Even if you're not "pumped" to play a certain team, good hitting teams will still put the bat on the ball. LSU just can't hit well. This will be the cause of the sky falling when SEC play begins.
I went to the game on Saturday and they took called strikes all day. Even deep in the game when their excuse (liberal strike zone) had been reoccurring inning after inning. It was hard to watch. Late in the game, one guy struck out on 4 pitches....and didn't take the bat off of his shoulder. Definitely cause for concern!
On the bright side, the pitching looks good. I think they will continue to improve as the season goes on and the younger guys gain confidence. The big question is whether the Tigers can score enough runs to win games.

I think everyone knew going into this season that batting would be our weakest link here, but this last weekend was pathetic. There's no excuse to lose two games to App State, the second by 10 or 11 points. Sheesh. Coming off a year where LSU didn't even make a regional, coach M better get his heiny in gear right now.

First they started with the BC$ references when discussing basketball teams invited to The Dance, now they're referring to BC$ when discussing a 3-game series in baseball.
Not to mention technically every Division 1 FBS school is a BCS conference. I think they meant to say BCS AQ conference. Still, its a really dumb reference
Good series for Tulane and the Tigers. Should be a fun game tomorrow. My dern wife wants to go out to eat!
ULL had a rough weekend.
Tulane travels to Wichita State.
ULL plays 5 games this week and hosts USM.
LSU plays a small Tourney with Michigan and Notre Dame. A little better competition at least.
As a side note, Rice goes to Stanford this week.

Nola with a stellar performance in NOLA last night.
Tulane had chances to rattle him early the 1st couple innings.
Once he settled into a groove, he was untouchable.

Cajuns did as I expected on the road this weekend. Ups and downs, nothing beating us consistently, just need to get a little better everywhere. Sometimes its at the plate, sometimes in the field. Got the win over Kansas but dropped the other 2.
We picked up a solid home win over Houston last night and travel to McNeese today. USM series should be tough for this young ball club. It'll be a great mental boost if we can take the series.
Ludicrously early RPI for 2012:
SELA 29
Cajuns 31
ULM 46
Tigers 61
Wave 74
Cajuns are that high because the RPI formula is so skewed towards opponents win pct and we've played a very solid group of teams going by their records.
Big night for the Lions in Hammond. Southeastern beats State for the fourth time in a row (dating back to an opening weekend sweep in Starkville in 2010). Lions win 4-3 with solid pitching from P. River Fresh. Andro Cuturo, Slidell Jason Greenleaf, and New Iberia Stephon Lopez.
