The most unsettling blowout I've ever watched. That first half was just ugly. I'm scratching my head over it, the second half looked a whole lot better.
I'm very worried about going against VTech next week. Our offensive line needs some serious coaching/help/something, and the offensive play calls were bizarre - further, several of our running backs need to learn to run FORWARD instead of sideways (or the offensive coordinator needs to run plays that run the ball forward instead of sideways, not sure which was the culprit). If the offense doesn't perform any better than they did in the first half, VT will kill us, no matter how well our defense plays.

um, not to debate or anything, lol - but theoretically, if the defense shuts out VT (which is certainly possible, they look pretty stout tonight) then basically all the offense has to do is score a field goal.
i know that neither are likely, but if you want to get into statements of the absolute...

I'd like to see Richard Murphy get more carries. IMO he's got serious potential.

Flynn showed great decision making and athleticism, he threw the ball very well and showed he can run and make decisions(and pocket presence and scrambling)
Ali Highsmith and Craig Stelz were alll over the field!!!
Doucet shows why he's one of the best WR in the country, came up with the big catches to put the game away early.
All of the running backs looked great(Williams, Hester, Scott Murphey)
Basically the defense is sick and definitley looked dominant, I mean 0 points i don't care who you play, you can't get any better then a shutout.
Negatives:
Offensive line(mostly pass protection). They definitely under performed and were letting too much pressure in on Flynn. If Flynn wasn't as quick and as athletic we would've given up more sacks and more loss of yardage. They must correct those offesnive line issues because it only gets worse from here on out. This is my biggest concern offensively
Too many penalties, especially on offense, they must cut down on those mental mistakes because when you play some of these higher ranked teams you'll pay..
I think the O-line issues(mostly O-Line giving up to much pressure), new coordinator and QB, first game of the year against a conference foe and raining like crazy, and Mississippi Sate came out fired up the game was a little closeer then expected in the first half.
For Mississippi State Titus Brown was playing his *** off and definitely stood out on the defensive side..

I agree with you hardhead, the o-line looked shaky at times. I thought some of the play calling was questionable, but I'd chalk that up to the rain and not wanting to show too much before VaTech. LSU's punter was really booming the ball tonight. Doucet looked like he was playing high school kids.

Yea i think it was the O-Line pass protection(run blocking was not bad) that didn't play up to what was expected, the Miss st defense were at the least getting too close and touching/pressuring Flynn a bit to much, Flynn was running because the pocket was breaking down, that's what it seemed like to me, mostly in the first half, not that they were getting beat like crazy but they should've been more dominate against Miss st's O-line IMO.
As far as Crowton, I agree I don't think you can say much, first game against a conference foe, raining, on the road, plus LSU knows their defense was handling their business, no need to panic if you don't core a couple TD's on the first couple drive..Look at the final result 45 points, 17 in the first half and they broke it open in the 3rd quarter with two more TD's...
I remember when Pelini first came in his first couple games LSU fans were ready to fire the guy but I knew the guy was a great coach because I seen him for years at Nebraska(my friend is a Cornhusker fan), I don't know much about Crowton but I know you can't just jump to conclusion in the first half og the first game of the season. I think the offense will be fine(I'm very pleased with Flynn and his ability to run and pass) JUST as long as they correct those offensive line issues though, they have to play better then they played tonight on the O-line, plain and simple.

Congrats LSU on the win.
I can say that MSU as a team DOES NOT SUCK.....QB (if you can call him that) Mike Henig Sucks.
The MSU o-line gave him decent protection but he looked Mike Vick, he couldn't get the ball close to a receiver. The Defense was very good but like the last three years they spent the majority of time on the field and were just spent by mid-fourth quarter. Plus the fact that LSU got the ball on our side of the 50 every time after each turnover it's hard to keep the game close.
LSU will not be facing a QB that will throw 6 picks in a game next week in VA Tech. Next week will be the first test for you guys, you had a nice scrimmage tonight. Good luck for the rest of the season.

A fair point! Of course, VTech was the number 1 defense in the country last year, so one has to wonder if anyone will score at all next week...or if it will be a case of one defense outscoring the other one off of turnovers. At any rate, I'm nervous.

The only thing that concerns me is the O-line just as long as they give Flynn better protection he'll be able to move the ball and score on V-Tech IMO. Our defense will shine this year, if Highsmith and Steltz(and Dorsey) keeps playing like they're playing we're in good shape
The crappy first half was due to the rain. That made the play calling kinda rough but we still cranked 17 points in the first two quarters. If it wouldn't have been raining we would have had 28 in the first half. I'm not worried about this team at all. Looking forward to next weekend
And how about some love for LaRon Landry's "replacement" Craig Steltz. Finally getting his chance to shine. He'll be a first rounder after a monster season this year. Not real fast but he's fast enough, he's as hard a hitter as there is AND he is a real ballhawk. Had 5 interceptions last year in limited playing time and it looks like he'll have that by next week. Not only that but did you see the runbacks after the picks. He's a player
The MSU offense is loaded with Dixon, Burks, Long, Elliot, and Henig. If the Dawg D can keep the LSU offense slowed down, it'll be a great game. MSU is primed to stand out this year. Also, (yes I hate LSU) LSU is overrated and shouldn't be ranked #2 in the country.
Wow, you couldn't have been more wrong if you tried AFTER THE GAME.
