The O-Line in the first half looked horrid. They didn't get any push and the MSU line was constantly getting through to Flynn. Someone obviously chewed some tail in the lockerroom at half time because they came right out and dominated to open the half. I don't think they're playing with enough attitude and a lot of the guys have very poor technique. Herman Johnson has no lateral movement and does not get low at all. Carnell Stewart is green, green, green. He made quite a few poor decisions and if he doesn't improve this week, it will be a long day for him against VaTech's DE's next week.
I don't know who did the playcalling, but that's not a Gary Crowton offense. I have seen a lot of Crowton offenses and they score on everyone. Crowton uses a lot of looks to create mismatches and get the really athletic guys in the open areas of the defense so they can make plays after the catch. I can only hope that one of two things happened: 1) They stayed away from the more creative plays like a lot of schools do when they open the season with an inferior team to not "show their hand" to schools they play later or 2) Miles is giving Crowton the same restrictions/guidelines that he gave Jimbo. The offense didn't look a bit different from the last few years.
The defense was pushed around early, but capitalized on some bad decisions made by Henig who was slapped around by LSU all night long. I don't fault the guy. He looked like Jay Cutler a few years back when LSU planted him into the turf an un-godly 27 times in three quarters before he was pulled. He was just trying to get rid of the ball before the defense was on top of him.
It was a good tune-up game. I liked that he offense made adjustments at halftime and executed in the second half. I like the defense capitalizing on the turnovers, just like Pellini said they would do this year.
MSU just doesn't have the horses and it was never more apparent when the second teams were playing and LSU's scrubs were literally shoving the MSU scrubs around. Damn this team is deep.

Henig looked like he could only throw the ball as hard as possible.

Each time I go to the zoo and see those porpoises crammed into tiny tanks, I think, "What a waste that is." Butcher half of them now! That's a lot of dolphin meat that can be fed to our cats, freeing up that tuna for our nation's hungry.
Steltz is not Landry's replacement. The other safety is, #27 Taylor? I think? Anyway, I think they just showed the vanilla offense because that was all that's necessary to beat MSU. I think the offense will open up much more against VT.
It was obvious what the outcome was going to be early in the second half. But I couldn't turn off the TV because I was really curious if we were going to see Henig have a body part removed. Our D was hammering the crap out of him, weren't they?
This was about what I expected.
For the last few years our OL's have gotten better as the season progressed. Let's hope it happens sooner, rather than later. Stewart got schooled by a very good DE in Brown.
Offensively, I didn't expect to see anything close to the full arsenal. I thought Hester looked good at RB. K.Williams looked good, but to me he actually runs a little soft at times. That block by Lafell was SICK. I thought Flynn looked good for the most part.
Defensively, they looked very good and I don't think they got pushed around. Dixon, who's a very good back, had like 30 yds on 14 or 15 carries. And in Henings defense, he really had no where to throw. He was trying to force passes into places that simply weren't open. The DB's were like glue out there. This defense is going to be tough on everyone they play, if they stay healthy.
