Telltale stats about #1 vs #2 matchups in college football

Ever since there have been polls that rank college football teams, there have been 24 meetings where #1 and #2 have been pitted together. Of those contests, 14 times the #1 team has defeated the #2 team. #2 has been victorious 8 times, and twice the game has ended in a tie.

The team that has won these epic contests most often is Notre Dame with 5 wins. Not surprising considering how many times the media has placed them in the top 1 or 2 over the years.

But what I found most interesting is that despite SEC teams having the toughest schedules to play every year (obviously because they have to play each other), the last 3 times that #1 & #2 played together, it was between SEC teams!

Right now the SEC is BY FAR the premier football conference in the country! College football lives here!

Sorry, but I picked up these stats on a sports website and they didn't note when the victor was a home or away team.

But frankly, LSU hasn't been bothered much by stiff competition on the road this year. I just hope that trend continues on Saturday night.

Since we are talking stats, here is one:

30-1

LSU is 30-1 when playing primetime under Les Miles. That is phenominal. When the "lights go on and the whole nation is watching" his teams perform.

I think the pressure is squarely on Bama in this game. Media WANTS Saban to be #1. They HAVE to defend thier home turf. They have a Soph QB that hasnt seen a defense as quick, speedy, strong and agile as LSU. So Bama will have to "protect" him from making the big mistake. I think this game, under these conditions, will be more than McArron can handle. The bulk of it will fall on Richardson and Lacey. If we can control them, we win this game by 2 scores.

LSUs defense doesnt think they are good. They know it. They also know that if they play thier A game, they can demolish the will of the opponent. And the more I see the hype build for this game, the more I see Bama clamming up before LSU does.

Ok so I did the research. When #1 travels to #2 (excluding neutral sites, and bowl/championship games) their record is 8-4-1.
