I think I can pull for a team like Tulane now. Flashy coach, getting flashy commits. He should have a sexy team by year 2, and then maybe even be ranked by years 2 or 3 (seeing as how bad CUSA is).

Pretty interesting past 4-5 months, at least as far as Tulane football is usually concerned.

The Audubon NIMBY's have stirred a little ruckus about the proposed new stadium. The Tulane administration and Cowen won't commit on a firm number of seats/seating capacity of said stadium. Some fear that anything less that 40K will doom program while most believe that as long as ability to expand exists then getting anything up while they can is preferable. Expansion can be sought if Tulane is included (most likely ACC or Big East) in the inevitable expansion of 2014-2015. Start winning with CuJo in the Dome for the next 3 years and show that crowds of 30-35K can be commonplace.

2013 recruiting has a buzz around the area and campus not seen/heard since the Bowden/Rich Rod era. CuJo already has 13 commitments. I think Tulane had 1 at this time last year (the brother of a current player). Bob Marley's grandson, Nico, has committed. He looks like he can "stir it up" on D. Tulane fans have been "waiting in vain" for some excitement. Most recent commit (Antonio McGhee) has offers from MS State, Ole Miss, OR St. and USC (gamecock variety). 10 of the 13 come from LA.

LSU taking so many out of staters might help you guys out this year? I dunno how often you chase the same athletes, because ya'll have much tighter admission standards I'm sure.

Why is Tulane pouring all of this money into a new stadium? I don't think they will ever be able to compete in a meaningful way on a national level, but they CAN compete at the highest levels in baseball. If I was in charge of Tulane, I'd dump all the money into college baseball and try to turn it into a super dominate program.

why does any school want it's own stadium? football is where tulane has its roots. i'm thrilled to see the university wanting it's own stadium again.

i want tulane to succeed every year in sports, but i know the odds are heavily against them in football (and in many ways baseball). the fact that they are going forward with the program instead of cutting it, is awesome anyway that i can get it.

They netted 2 guys from my former hs St. Charles, and where my brother plays now. Lazedrick Thompson Rb this year and Luke Jackson (Sr) who I assume will make the move to lb from de. Looks like Dt Taylor Cochran may end up there next year too. Pretty cool, since thats where Coach CJ graduated from too, although it was in St. Charles parish then as opposed to Laplace now.

I don't think they should cut football by any means. I'd be really sad if they did that. I'm just saying I think Tulane Baseball could be really special with the right resources. I don't think Tulane will ever have enough resources to be relevant in football. You might get lucky with basketball, but I think baseball makes the most sense to go all-in.

LSU is vulnerable at the moment. Even at our peak, Tulane was able to challenge us and make it interesting.

Tulane was successful in baseball prior to the NCAA rules changes that limited scholarships to 11.3 per school and did away with the transfer rule. Until that changes (and most likely it never will) baseball will not be able to get back to where it was on a consistent level. Tulane's football program was well ahead of TCU, Boise, Louisville, Cincinnatti, Rutgers, etc. just 15 years ago. Had they built their own 30K seat football stadium 10 years ago instead of renovating Turchin, one can only imagine that they would be ready to expand it now to 50K and would have been a lock for Big12 expansion. But NOOOOOOOO, Scott Cowen tried to sneak his way into reducing athletics to DIII before he was outed by some boosters. Tulane needs on OCS for revenue. Playing in the Dome is a financial drain. Tulane's fan base is dying off. A new generation of fans HAS to be developed. They only way to do that, is to win. Playing in the Sunbelt-USA (my name for it) should make it relatively easy to start winning. But, Tulane cannot stay in this conference forever and maintain fan interest. Playing UTSA, USA, North TX, Troy and the likes will not draw 30K not matter if in the Dome or in an OCS. Tulane must, must, must get into the ACC/Big East when 2014-2015 expansion occurs. Showing a willingness to invest in athletics is paramount to perception from other university presidents that Tulane wants inclusion.

Oh yea, I forgot about that! And the sky-high tuition for Tulane has to really screw your baseball team. Gosh, I really hate those scholarship limitations. It's just ridiculous. Give them all full scholarships for crying out loud, and throw some extras in for the women.

Good point though. Thumbs up. Hopefully they will increase the scholarship count again after the playoff contracts are signed and there's a couple extra BILLION dollars to spread between the 120ish programs.

I mean, football players are already getting hookers, drugs, yachts, mansions, etc... what could they possibly have left to blow that kinda change on? (See Miami.)

I'm not a Tulane fan, but I kinda liked ya'll using the Super Dome. But whatever ya'll feel is best I guess. Rock on!

I'm not sure this massive wave of realignment is going to happen though if all the major schools have access to the playoffs, which it sounds like they will. I could be wrong though. How would having a 30k stadium make you more attractive to the Texas league?

Unless things have changed, but back in my day... Tulane students were largely international or from around the country. There was a much smaller percentage of local people that actually attended. And in my experience from a loooong time ago, once these kids graduated, they mostly moved away again. There just weren't enough jobs around to keep them there. Kinda a shame really, but what can ya do? But given that reality, I'm not really sure how you can develop your fanbase a lot more than you have. If you have zero affiliation with Tulane, wouldn't you be spending your time cheering for the Saints? And if not them, wouldn't you be going to the LSU games?

Tulane is just in a real tough spot to market their product. Beyond a stadium, how do you market your team to people who will never actually attend Tulane, has no real connection to that school and overcome the LSU and Saints dominance?

Again, don't go all Tulane Green Wave Crazy on me... I'm asking legit questions from an external point of view. I'd like to see ya'll increase your attendance and generate some positive interest for New Orleans and Louisiana. Just not sure how to really make a significant difference, especially if you wanna start talking about joining a major BCS conference.

Even if Tulane were to become the most dominant college baseball team on earth, the fact is, college baseball is small time college athletics. Even a great program like LSU is just a drop in the bucket next to football. College baseball is like college hockey. A regional sport, at best. The best players don't even play the college game. Heck, your money would be better spent in basketball. At least that's a national sport.

If Tulane became a power in Conference USA (If they consistently got LSUs scraps, they could be), they would make infinitely more money than if they were the best college baseball program ever.

a) A 30K stadium won't make Tulane attractive to any BC$ league. I said, if they had built a 30K stadium 10 years ago and invested like TCU and SMU; then, this year the discussion would be about expanding to 45K now. Instead, we have to be discussing 25-30K now and HOPE to maybe be discussing 40K in 4-5 years from now. Direct result of stupidity on St. Charles Ave. and Willow Dr. Tulane will certainly be attractive at 40-45K to the newBE or future ACC should either conference loss a couple members, which very likely could happen.

b) back in my day...........................Tulane filled a 70K+ stadium on more than one occasion. Very regularly drew over 50K because LSU sucked. Tulane was a nationally respected football power. One of the best in the South.

c) graduates moved away because (your right) the opportunity wasn't in NOLA. Now NOLA is repeated listed as a "hip and happening town". Even the graduates who move away are going to more likely to return for a game or two IF it's worth it. The team must be good and the experience must be fun. College gameday is an experience. Tailgating, comroderry (sp?), school spirit, etc. One that hasn't existed at Tulane pretty much since they moved into the Dome. Uptown and Audubon are what some (ME) consider to be a perfect place to spend a weekend. Especially with children. The Park, The Zoo, The River, The Fly--how could you NOT want to have that experience a couple times a year. Back in my day, going to Bourbon St. was exception, not the rule.

d) Tulane used to have Loyola and UNO students as fans. They need to get them back, along with the Xavier and Dillard students. That's an additional 20-50K students. Sure there's Saints and LSU around but there are hundreds of thousands of SE Louisiana football fans who can't afford those guys. Unless LSU is playing SW Missouri St. Tech, ticket prices are over a $100 for nosebleeds. Same for the Saints. Wouldn't you want to see quality football for your family of 4 for under $150 including food and drinks?

e) Easiest question of all: WIN, WIN, WIN! (with a lot local talent, like this guy who committed today)
