2013 Second round Draft Pick
So there was some discussion if the Saints "played nice" during the 2012 season, the commisioner may return our 2013 second round pick. After this reversal on player suspensions, do you think our friend Roger will still consider returning our draft pick?? Something tells me we have no chance of getting the 2nd round pick back. Has anyone heard anything credible on this topic?

the blame fell to the organization and leaders
therefore to punish the organization means that we don't stand a rats azz chance of getting a pick back.

Honestly, I have seen many people say that but I went back to the different articles that came out when RG gave us the sanctions and didn't see anything about it.....
Maybe it's true but I'd lik to see the transcript....

No, its gone.
That's all their is to it. Maybe we could trade a 2nd and 5th in 2014 to acquire a 2nd this year. But the original pick is gone

The Saints organization played nice. You didn't hear a word from the Saints front office, just the players.

would you be ok with this 1st rd pick..if we dont get the 2nd rd,pick back? Todd Mcshay Mock Draft 1.0...not posting link because its a pay site..but will post his Saints Pick
New Orleans Saints
Record: 5-8
Jarvis Jones*, OLB, Georgia
The Saints are without a second-round pick as part of their punishment for the bounty scandal, so they must upgrade the pass rush with their first-rounder. Jones has top-notch pass-rush skills and his primary role as a rookie will be to get after the quarterback. He also has good range in coverage, and should be an upgrade as a starter on the strong side.

"The Saints could get it back in terms of getting back a second-round draft choice," Wyche said," but it will come at the expense of some draft picks at the other end. … Let's say the Saints do not have a good season and they have a high second-round draft pick. The league could say, 'Okay, you can petition for that pick, we'll give it back to you, but it will come at the expense of a third and sixth-round pick.'

Could say? That's the most nonsensical quote ever. I have no idea if they'll get back some compensation for good behavior, but it looks like nobody else does either.

If this Saints end up between picks 8-14 in the first round, a simple trade back to later in the first round should land us a second rounder plus possibly an additional pick in a later round(3rd or 4th round). That they cannot take away from us. These teams are always looking to trade up and reach for a specific player(cowboys for example). Unless there is a player that they feel is a must get at that slot, I bet this happens.

Lets trade Daniel for a 2nd and it will seem like nothing changed. That would require us playing him at least 1 game this year and he have a good performance.

the CBSSports.com article stated:

In the case of the team, the commissioner would consider whether there are factors that would support modifying the forfeiture of the team's 2013 second-round draft choice.
|
According to this phrasing... it makes it sound as if he could say after a year: "since the organization played nice, they will only lose a 3rd round pick instead of a 2nd." or he could give the pick back altogether.
It's all up to the commissioner, and maybe he'll actually be inclined to give the pick back later on in order to appear like a nice guy. There is nothing set in stone that says the Saints can't have their pick back.
