This is the kind of stuff that ticks me off. From an article on NFL.com

Aaron Rodgers won the 2011 NFL MVP award in a landslide. We don't get the full voting results from NFL Network's "The Top 100: Players of 2012," but we suspect this race wasn't close either.
|
Like it's inconceivable that Brees could have been #1

Couldn't be more excited. I guess this was just Rodgers' year. The fact remains, we have the New Orleans Saints, we have Drew Brees, and we've had some awesome years and the future looks just as good if not better.
At least Gronk and Brady both came out underneath. Can't beat us on the field or off.

Here's the video:
NFL Videos: 'The Top 100: Players of 2012': Drew Brees
The important thing to remember is that, when the Saints signed him in 2006, he was a "pretty good" quarterback. A couple of really good seasons in San Diego. He had a few sub-par seasons as well. At one point he was benched for Doug Flutie.
But he's gone from THAT to one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.
We're blessed.

If I was unbiased I would rank him at 2 also.

he brought us a Lombardi and he got a SB MVP
i prefer more of those over meaningless "top 100000 players of the NFL" poles

Rodgers must have won it because of all those statistical records he has set in his career, so more would be expected next season. Oh, wait. That's Drew Brees.
Never mind.

Michael Irvin was the only one to agree with Bress being #2 and Brady being #4. Neon didn't even give Brees credit for his single season yardage record saying pretty much that of course he broke the record because all the Saints do is throw, throw, and throw. What also ticked me off was when asked to predict 2013 top players they all have written Brees off because of no contract yet and no Sean Payton. NFL Network talking heads suck!

LOL. 4 weeks ago Florio would have been 2 or 3. Now, doesn't even make the final cut.

I would have had Brees at #1 above Rodgers, but I can't share the sentiment that he was "robbed".
As with the MVP, I thought both would be contenders and both were deserving. I thought Brees should have had the edge just from the number of records he was setting, but the media was running with Rodgers early success with acknowledgements of what Brees was doing only later in the season. As posted in another thread, players also watch the same media we do so it's no surprise that Rodgers outranked Brees in this countdown, it was a foregone conclusion he'd get MVP and that can easily carry into player voting (as it did last year).
My real contention is the notion of "it's not even close"... Even though my personal ranking would have Brees above Rodgers, it is hard to ignore that Rodgers had a really good season last year. The Flynn stuff should have raised some eyebrows as well as their playoff performance. But, I think Brees & Rodgers were the top two all last year and both deserved to be in the conversation. So, while I thought Brees should have edged Rodgers out, I wouldn't have expected a landslide either way... it's that part that ticks me off.
And for the record, we don't know that it was a landslide in the player vote -- that again is media hype.

If anyone talks about the saints offense and mentions losing Payton while failing to mention Carmichael's name they lose all credibility in what their saying to me. I hate people that speak without knowing what their talking about, "they lost their playcaller" no we didnt idiot . I get sick of that.

Brees was ranked #2 overall out of 1800 players in the NFL, and, like you said, he will ALWAYS be our guy at QB. MVP of our first ever Super Bowl. Whatever he is ranked in anyone's opinion polls, Brees will always be #1 with the Who Dat Nation.
He's literally our modern day Joe Montana. Be grateful the days of the Billy Joes, the Wuerffels, and the Aaron Brooks are gone. I know I definitely am.
