Could the Owners reconsider the appeals process?
I would never expect such mercy for the Saints, but given what a debacle this bounty situation has become, could the appeals process be changed with an ammendment to the new CBA? The process itself is a huge black eye for the league and is bad for players, owners, the NFL and most importantly bad for business. It would greatly benefit the owners to have a 3rd party arbitrator for all apeals and it would show a bit of good faith to the fans and to the players. After all, this won't be the last time the appeals process is used and is talked about as being a sham. The league can't afford 10 more years of this.

I'm not sure there's much financial incentive for them to do that
Plus rog has that power bc the owners REALLY wanted him to have it

I don't see the owners doing anything publicly until the concussion lawsuits are resolved.
If things go bad, they'll tie the rope around Roger Goodell's neck and start over with someone else.

I think any time events like these leave a bad taste in the mouths of fans and potential fans, there is a hit to the brand. When there is a hit to the brand, money is lost. I also think most players are looking at Vilma and are thinking it could be them... just one man's opinion.

Only when it gets to the level of public embarrasment
and that can only happen when media - particularly corporate media - is willing to take on a golden goose
It can happen but right now its at the level of mild controversy - which we all know sells big

You're right. We're gonna need some help. Hopefully Vitt calling out Goodell will start the movement we need.

What do you think the real financial loss is here? I just don't see it as being big.

If this absolute power becomes a heavy topic every time there is an appeal over the next 10 years, it will become a problem. People don't take too well to dicatorships. I'm not sure it would benefit the owners more to keep it the way it is than to change it.

I suspect that the owners will demand better investigations. I highly doubt this becomes the norm. It's been in place for some time with the same complaints you reference and no one cared. Frankly, most still don't care because it's not them being punished.

Several owners were quick to offer verbal support to the Commissioner's actions shortly after he pronounced the "sentences", but they sure have been very quiet lately. We know that Goodell would never have handed down such unprecedented penalties without their (or most of them) approval. I expect the 31 (sans Benson)are getting a little nervous right now because despite the dog and pony show for the 12, there are big mistakes revealed almost hourly. At this point I wonder if they go all in and have Kraft state how he and other owners have "complete faith in Roger, know him to be a deeply honorable man and have absolutely no doubt as to the fairness of his investigation and subsequent punishments".
