Of course Goodell is going to wait until Friday to uphold the suspensions. (merged)
His word is the last people hear before the weekend, the players get lost until Monday...didn't he do this before? What slime.

He has done this with all of their major announcements, or pronouncements. It's a common PR method used in politics. Part of me thinks he may come down a bit on some of the length of suspensions. He's got to figure a way to back out of this thing. That's the problem with arrogance and authority. If you leave no room for yourself to be wrong when declaring a position, it's hard to back away when you've realized you made a mistake.

It's alright, hell will rain down on him Monday and give the media a lot of ammunition to start the week.

well the smart move would be to act like his "appeals court" works, and grant some sort of reduction, but Goodell has not been smart or thorough, just bull headed.

i wouldnt paint him as an evil genius for this one. he hasnt out thought the system and come up with some amazing plan - just the status quo.
hopefully the reason is he doesnt want to answer "why did you give them games back?" so quickly

You may be right-on here. Their lawyers and corporate communications departments are orchestrating every move, including PR advantages.

He is masterful at manipulating the press, and the fact that this is a typical move regarding controversial information doesn't negate that.
There are very, very few individuals in positions of absolute authority who could hold off-the-record conversations with journalists and convince them that although he can not show them the evidence, because he has to protect his source from the big, bad all powerful Saints, it (the evidence) is 100% conclusive that they had a pay to injure program in place,"TRUST ME". And they did trust him. So yeah, he is a master at media manipulation.

i think there are likely more than you suspect - just not as many as we care about.
hes decent in the press, but i wouldnt say hes a master(he makes a ton of mistakes if you watch closely for it), and this DEFINITELY isnt an example of why you would argue hes masterful. really, a lot of what you are chalking up to him being able to manipulate them is really him having a ton of control over who has access to the league and teams. kiss the ring if you want to report in the future. thats not slick pr, thats just power.
if you believe hes unfairly lowering the boom on the saints because he doesnt like them for whatever reason - do you really want to stick your neck out and get him to not like you? easier to collect the check, keep the family fed, and parrot what he says.

Studies have statistically shown that there's less chance of an incident if you do it at the end of the week.

Odds the NFL denies the appeal tomorrow afternoon?
Friday afternoon before a holiday week. Hmmmmm, could anything be more predictable than the NFL's media avoidance strategy?

Nope.
They'll wait until Monday. Lots of folks will be traveling or out of communication Tues and Wed. With no other input over the holiday, the smear will stick better if they sling it on Monday.
Especially after Drew talks some truth on Letterman tonight. He's a very credible speaker. If they follow him with their dreck, a lot of folks will discount it. Give it a few days...

I said Monday he will wait till Friday. He gets the media talking head to do his bidding all weekend and on the following Monday everyone thinks what he said is gospel. He has done the same thing every step of the way.
No decision today -- possibly good news?
