Drew no longer putting a positive spin on negotiations...
Drew Brees is no longer putting a positive spin on contract negotiations with New Orleans Saints - New Orleans Saints Football NFL News - NOLA.com

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees was no longer putting any kind of optimistic spin on his lingering contract standoff with the Saints on Wednesday, telling WWL radio that the process has been "extremely frustrating."

I'm borderline to the point of not caring if this deal gets done this year. Let him play on the tag or sit a year. If we were gonna pick a year to do this then this might actually be the perfect year for it. I've said the whole time that both sides deserve equal blame but these days I'm feeling a little more blame on Drew's side. I don't want to see us financially crippled for any one player period. I want us to be competitive for years to come and if we pay $21m a year for Drew at some point that is gonna bite us hard. I feel this deal gets done at some point but I'm glad Drew is starting to talk honestly instead of the cookie cutter responses. If you're not happy then say it. Next I'd like to hear Loomis get honest and tell us exactly how he feels.

I'm serious. I know what not having Drew out there means for us but I also know what paying him too much money means also. We're in a tight spot really. Loomis is the best in the business at working this stuff out so you know he'll do right by the team. It just wouldn't bother me a whole lot to have him tell Drew that he'll have to wait until next year unless he's willing to come down a bit. $19M a year is a pretty good payday where I come from.

This is such a terrible situation that ultimately has to do with greed on the players behalf. I'm pretty sure everyone on this board along with the Saints organization, coaching staff, and players would all agree that Drew deserves to be paid as one of if not the highest paid player in the NFL, that's not the issue. The issue is actually having the money to do that and field a competitive team. If it weren't for the salary cap, and Loomis could spend blindly like the Yankees, then we would all be screaming at him as this would be his fault. But in the NFL there is only so much money to go around for the whole team and there for making one player's salary (even if it is the best player) to high it cripples the TEAM in other areas. Maybe Loomis can cut Bushrod, Grubbs, De La Puenta, Evans, and Strief and sign some UDFA's to play O-line so Drew can have as much money as he wants. Drew is a very smart man and I don't know why he can't see that these negotiations aren't because the Saints don't want to, it's because they can't

Him playing under the tag would cripple us more than a contract.

He can go kick rocks at this point. prima donna drew brees said and acted one way and is now saying and acting in COMPLETE hypocracy to himself. If an extra few million dollars is the respect he wants then see ya. id rather have a hungry quarterback that understand true respect comes in the form of trophies. either way its drews fault.he is allowing himself to represneted by filth or is really this greedy.

Really...the Saints have very little cap room, but was still able to sign 3 starting LBs, a starting DT, a starting Guard, and franchise tag Drew for $16+ mil.
Just make it happen Mickey. Brees is worth every penny.

In the NFL I always thought more guaranteed money up front is what's more important to players than the highest yearly salary average?

Wasting a year of Drew's career when we are in the mix to win a Superbowl is foolish.

IMO at the end of the day the true saints fans will side with the team over Brees - I'm sure brees doesn't care but taking all of this public on the teams primary radio station is a fail on his part

i think thats part of the hold up. he wants more front loaded. i say pay the man and deal with the "crippling of the team" later. i wanna win now. ESPECIALLY after all the crap thats happened this offseason. im so sick of everyone hating on us and razzing me when i wear my gear. i want a superbowl now and next year.

You are 100% correct! Guaranteed money is real but total contract value is just a number.
