Florio: Vilma gets same judge for his new case
Vilma gets same judge for his new case_
Vilma gets same judge for his new case | ProFootballTalk
Not new, but nice analysis by Florio

Part of getting the justice you want is getting the judge you think will give you the justice you want. And Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma has gotten the judge he wanted, for both of the lawsuits he has filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.

Appointed by a Democratic president and having a reputation for being liberal, she’ll be more likely to side with David in a case against Goliath.

Dang this little end tidbit doesn't sound good_

The good news for the NFL and Goodell is that the federal appeals court with jurisdiction over Louisiana — the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit — has a reputation for being conservative.
The NFL definitely isn’t complaining about that.

I'm sure it was possible to write this article without making it a "liberal vs conservative" thing.

Maybe someone in the federal appeals court will flip flop with their traditional values, like in the Healthcare thing. Thought I'd bring it up since the "liberal vs conservative" issue has already been brought up to a point.

I'm sure there are a few conservatives in Louisiana who side with Vilma over Goodell on this issue.

The federal appeals court will be stocked with federal appointees not necessarily from the area. So i don' t think we can count on an all saints fan bench.....

The good thing is if vilma wins at the first level, federal appeals usually take a lot if time.

If Vilma wins at the first level it means all the evidence would be presented, including testimony from Joe Hummel, Sean Payton, Mike Cerullo, Gregg Williams, Joe Vitt, Mickey Loomis, and Mike Ornstein.

Getting to discovery is the biggest hurdle, forcing Goodell to produce evidence and testify under oath would be a huge victory in itself.
Vilma may lose the battle eventually, but he will win the war.
Goodell and his merry band of meatheads can not stand the scrutiny, they can not
even produce one game tape.
V for Vilma, Victory and Vindication.

As a conservative who also happens to know a lot of other conservatives, I can assure you that the overwhelming majority of conservatives in the Gulf Coast area side with Vilma over Goodell on this issue, so I don't think it's a liberal vs conservative thing. Political ideology is irrelevant when it comes to fairness and due process if one keeps an open mind.

This is not an issue of "liberal vs. conservative" in the political sense. But Florio is dead on that the tendency of "liberal" judges, like Berrigan, is to interpret laws in a way that helps the little guy (Vilma) in his fight against large, powerful corporations.

Liberal or Conservative I think we can all agree that the NFL is corrupt and needs to be put in its place.

ASSumptions and generalizations.
That's fine and all, but he just gave the female, liberal judge (since we are classifying) a reason to look at Vilma's case with an "I am not going to be partial" attitude. Whereas, he could have written about a thousand other things and let that judge rule the way she would otherwise, without the thought of "They think I am SLANTED" on her mind.
