My biggest question is, how is Spagnuolo going to all of a sudden get even #15 ranked production from a defense that hasn't performed even close to that level?

How, all of a sudden are we going to get a pass rush from a D-Line that hasn't been able to generate a pass rush for 6 years?

I agree that Harper should bulk up and move to LB. He's too slow for SS and can't even outrun a QB not to mention his liabilities in pass coverage. I'd like to see a safety tandem of Malcom Jenkins at SS and Quddus at FS. This position is a glaring weakness on our defense.

I don't agree with Patrick Robinson getting better over the course of the year. Every team we played, when they needed a completion, they went at Harper and Robinson. I admit that I haven't seen a lot of Johnny Patrick, but from what I have seen, he looks much better than Patrick Robinson, is taller and faster I believe. Something needs to be done there, and the move of Robinson to nickle and dime back with Patrick moving to #2 CB is what I'm looking for.

I agree that the LB corps has been the most improved area of the D during the offseason. While I do love Vilma, his hard headed tackling style gets us killed on running plays and getting Lofton in my opinion was a fantastic move and an upgrade over Vilma. Lofton is a thumper and does very well in the short passing game defense. Look how he's done against the likes of Jimmy Graham twice a year the last two years for an example. He's a much better tackler than Vilma and he really knows how to shoot the gaps and get to the ball carrier behind the line of scrimmage. Hawthorne provides some size and speed on the outside as does the guy from St. Louis which I think will show up on those screens and passes to the short flat that Shanle doesn't seem to be able to handle any longer. Still, the weaknesses on the D-Line and at Safety and the #2 CB positions are cause for concern and I don't know how much a change of scheme or new coaching techniques are going to improve those areas.

I don't believe we have finished this defense. The additions of Bunkley and Jordan were needed but we're still wait and see about how much Galette and McBride and crew can improve our pass rush. I still believe we need 2 more defensive drafts minimum to get this team competitive on the defensive side of the ball.

My other concern is that Spags will only be here for one year. All those other teams and owners that hate on the Saints will do everything they can to take him away from us after this year by offering an Head Coaching job next year.

Your comments on these items I've addressed will be interesting reading.

-It's possible, look at how much of an impact Wade Phillips had for the Texans defense...if the correct personnel is there, then improvements can be made. Heck, look at the instant improvement Gregg Williams made in his 1st year. So a 6/7 spot improvement on defense is not out of the question

How, all of a sudden are we going to get a pass rush from a D-Line that hasn't been able to generate a pass rush for 6 years?

Pass rush is still a big question mark imho.. Jordan is a 4-6 sack type of guy, more stout against the run. Actually may be a better 5-Tech in a 3-4 defense

Yep, I agree wholeheartedly. Some don't realize that Harper takes on blockers better than the LBs the Saints had last season (Dunbar) and this year (Shanle), so size really isn't a big deal for him..he has the "want to"

I don't agree with Patrick Robinson getting better over the course of the year. Every team we played, when they needed a completion, they went at Harper and Robinson. Robinson went from Horrible to Bad..there's your improvement As I stated in the video, Patrick should be starting opposite Greer

Patrick Robinson was left on islands as GW blitzed over 60% of the time. Prob has continued to get better over the past 2 years. He will be a ton 10 CB in the next 2 years under Spags system.

Spags brings an effective defensive scheme and actual teaching of how to play football.. that hasn't happened for years.

Really enjoyed the video and analysis, completely agree about Harper and would love to see him closer to the line of scrimmage somehow on a consistent basis. I've got high hopes for Jenkins this year.

Do you really want to talk about the NFCD Playoff game? 36 points to the Niners?

You also have to look at certain games and see where/how the Saints got to 13th

Saints defense played better the last 5 games of the season..

Its okay to take the B&G glasses off at times and acknowledge the facts.. The Saints have to get better defensively in order to get back to the Super Bowl

Yea...we lost to the 49ers in the playoffs

If you are going to discredit our defense by saying they gave up 36 points then you clearly didn't watch the game that included 3 of our 5 turnovers on our own side of the field and 2 inside our own 30

I was looking for spags' contract but couldn't find much. Did he only get a 1 year contract? I thought 3 was the standard

Didn't say it was awful.. DL & Secondary are the question marks.. Until they improve, then you'll see more of the same.

Turnovers are a big part of the game as well.. that's the difference between the 2009 Saints & '10, '11 Saints.
