Giardi: Saints, Butler talking about GTD $. Saints, Pats know what it'll take to do deal

Can't embed and all the original Butler negotiation threads cycled off the first page. Mods, feel free to merge with one of the older ones if necessary.

Also says the parameters of a deal between Saints and Butler are mostly in place.

His third tweet sounds like speculation but otherwise he seems pretty sure of this. Anybody got any info on this guy?

CSN New England. He's legit.

Yeah, third tweet is a little hard to discern. I have a feeling he's saying Saints have one price (my gut, based on what Detiller and rapoport reported, says 42) and Pats have another (gut says 32). And that they'll eventually find common ground.

It's sad how desperate and accustom to being ripped off that Saints fans have become. Any first round pick for a 27 year old previously UDFA is a rip off.

Agree to disagree. 32 for a true number-1 CB would be great by me.

When they were 27 you would not have traded a first round pick for Kurt Warner, James Harrison, Adam Vinatieri, Antonio Gates, or Rod Smith?

2 thoughts

1 - the trade with the Pats is ready, and its not for the #11 pick
2- Loomis is trying to structure Butler's deal so that if they have to release him after a couple years there won't be a lot of dead money. Call it Jairus Byrd PTSD

So the Saints and Pats know what the trade would be? But, but teams can't agree to a trade involving a RFA!

I can live with giving back the 32nd pick, hopefully we get another lower round pick with it to like a 4th or 5th. If we give up the 11th pick I will be very P.O.ed!

Its depressing!

Pats UDFA this guy a couple years ago, and put him in a system where he covers teams 2nd WR, with Logan Ryan covering the top guy with safety help. The pats see him as replaceable, and already did so with Gilmore. But we are about to pony up a 1st rounder for him, and spend tens of millions in cap dollars, and then probably turn around and ask him to cover teams top WR on an island, and don't have the scheme of secondary to make it work with him.

Belicheck turns UDFA into fool's gold once again, while we just traded him our former 20th overall pick, who's 23 and getting better, for the 32nd pick.

What does him being an UDFA have to do with negotiations? Tony Jefferson was also an UDFA and he just signed a long term deal with the Ravens. If you can play, you get paid. And Butler can play.

If your point is compensation in trade talks, where you're drafted (or not drafted in this case) doesn't matter. The Saints drafted Jimmy Graham in the 3rd round and traded him for a 1st AND starting center.

Warner was a QB...a position that has a much longer shelf life...just as Vinatieri at K. Brown has a very good chance of proving himself as a system player. After the slew of FA busts by the Saints, I'm appalled that fans haven't learned their lesson yet.

He graded as one of the best corners last year. We're trying to win NOW, and to be honest we suck at drafting cornerbacks.

Jabari Greer was undrafted yet that didn't stop us from paying him. It's what you do after that first step in the building.

With the logic some of you display, Jamarcus Russell should be outplaying Drew Brees, right?
