Jahri Evans getting some love on NFL.com
NFL Podium Awards: Jahri Evans headlines offensive linemen - NFL.com

This spot was reserved for Eagles OT Jason Peters before he ruptured his right Achilles tendon -- twice -- during this offseason. That injury moves Evans to the top spot on my list. In my discussions with general managers, personnel executives and NFL coaches, the same two words were repeatedly used to describe Evans: complete and consistent. He has excellent size, strength, quickness and intelligence. He has also proven to be incredibly durable, as evidenced by his 96 straight starts for the Saints.
|
It's nice to see him getting some recognition as the top offensive lineman in the game, since it felt like Carl Nicks has overshadowed him for the past year or two. I think some might forget how awesome this guy is. He has been so durable and consistent. It is pretty outstanding that he has never missed a game in his career. Keep it going, Jahri.

you can say that about every offensive lineman in the league...Evans will not be the reason Brees gets hurt and he makes sure of that...some of those Penalties keep defensive lineman off of Brees.

The last OTA reports I read through either said he (Jahri Evans) wasn't participating at all or he was being significantly limited. I know he had offseason knee surgery, but I haven't been able to find the type of surgery it was or how serious the knee injury was. Anyone have any info?

This.
The difference between Nicks and Evans was penalties. While Nicks was a bit better at the run game, Evans is a much better pass blocker. However, Jahri just can't seem to dodge the penalties.
It's what separates him from being "one of the top 5 guards" to "THE top guard".
It will be interesting to see though. Evans was good before Nicks came around. Will Nicks still be as dominate without Evans? Without Brees?

2010 was a bad year for penalties for Evans.
Not sure what the numbers were like for 2011 but I venture to guess it was a lot better.

I think he only had the penalty problem last year when they changed the location of the back ref? I could be wrong but even with his few penalties, our QB is kept safe and our offense is #1.

I can't be the only one that respects Nicks for actually telling the whole world it's about the money. From jump street he said he wants to get paid. Can't fault him for following the money when he was honest about that motive.

Didn't he sign for same amount just longer. I remember the offers were not for from each other. Could be wrong. I hope Freeman gets his ars handed to him from Nick's position. I dislike any team in the south that isn't suited up in the best uni in the NFL. BLACK AN GOLD. WHO DAT

Id rather have a couple more penalties every season than an injured/roughed up Brees...EVERY time. Good for you Mr Evans.

I think the OL coach needs a raise. It just goes to show you how well we are developing our lineman.

I agree, but Aaron Kromer has been looked at for much more than a raise. In the offseason he interviewed for several head coaching positions. You hate to see coaches that good leave.
