Let's here some early predictions on UDFA's that make the final 53...
It seems every year the Saints have 1 or 2 UDFA's that make the final roster... Last year Quddus was the biggest guy, but the likes of Sammy Knight, Pierre Thomas, and Lance Moore have also come from the UDFA ranks...
We appear to have another solid crop of undrafted rookies this offseason, so I want to see who people think will emerge and make the final roster. Who do you think is a shoe-in for the PS as well?
Here's the UDFA class...
Quote:
LB Kadarron Anderson, Furman
LB Stephen Johnson, Temple
LB Aaron Tevis, Boise State
WR Malcolm Beyah, Middle Tennessee State
WR Chris Givens, Miami (Ohio)
WR Kevin Hardy, Citadel
DE Braylon Broughton,Texas Christian
DL Tyrunn Walker, Tulsa
TE Jake Byrne, Wisconsin
RB Travaris Cadet, Appalachian State
DB A.J. Davis, Jacksonville State
C Brian Folkerts, Washburn
S Jose Gumbs, Monmouth
S Jerico Nelson, Arkansas
S Johnny Thomas, Oklahoma State
OT Dan Hoch, Missouri
OT Aderious Simmons, Arizona State
RET Laron Scott, Georgia Southern
RB Joe Banyard, UTEP

I've heard good early reports on Givens, Cadet, and Nelson... but I'm interested in hearing who you think breaks through.

I don't see any UDAs making the final 53. Maybe Cadet, Givens, Nelson, Gumbs and Walker make the practice squad. If one of them shows some serious talent at special teams, then they might make the 53.

Even though Givens has impressed during minicamp, it's going to be very hard for an UDFA to crack into the WR group... Same goes for the RBs. We'll probably keep 4 HBs, and we all know who those 4 will be.
My best guess would be for one of the S or CBs to make the final cut. Jericho Nelson is my gut pick, but a darkhorse would be LaRon Scott because of his ST ability.

It all depends on how the UFDAs play on Special teams. These players won't make it unless they can prove they are multidimensional.
With that said I see two possibly making the 53 based on reports so far:
S Jerico Nelson - Maybe replaces Amaya, but I think that would be tough
WR Chris Givens - If he returns kicks or becomes a gunner on ST, he may replace Roby

From everything I've read or heard the only player with a legitimate shot is Jerico Nelson. Spagnuolo said he possessed veteran like characteristics. I've heard positive things about Chris Givens also, but cracking our WR Corps as an UDFA, good luck. Maybe Givens makes the practice squad. Outside of those two I haven't heard anything overwhelmingly positive about the rest.

I hope to see DL- Tyrunn Walker, S- Jose Gumbs & RB- Travaris Cadet make the final 53. Haven't heard too much about Walker & Gumbs, but we might get a better guage on those 2 when training camp starts and we can see them in pads and can have contact.

Honestly I don't see any making it, either. I think we have a bunch of great PS prospects like Givens, Nelson, and Cadet, but I don't see them making the 53. If I had to pick one, though, it'd actaully be Cadet since there's major injury concerns with Thomas, Ingram, and Ivory. But I dunno, do we keep 5 active backs? Unlikely.

Other than QB's, WR's and DB's its hard for anyone else to show much in OTA's
At this moment the only one to me is Jericho Nelson while others could look good its going to be hard to break through against current depth. The others one I like are Tyrunn Walker, Aaron Tevis and Maybe Laron Scott
Here is the list minus some who have already been cut
Quote:
LB Kadarron Anderson, Furman
LB Aaron Tevis, Boise State
WR Malcolm Beyah, Middle Tennessee State
WR Chris Givens, Miami (Ohio)
WR Kevin Hardy, Citadel
DE Braylon Broughton,Texas Christian
DL Tyrunn Walker, Tulsa
TE Jake Byrne, Wisconsin
RB Travaris Cadet, Appalachian State
DB A.J. Davis, Jacksonville State
C Brian Folkerts, Washburn
S Jose Gumbs, Monmouth
S Jerico Nelson, Arkansas
S Johnny Thomas, Oklahoma State
OT Aderious Simmons, Arizona State
RET Laron Scott, Georgia Southern
RB Joe Banyard, UTEP

I can see Givens making the PS, and being our new Arrington for the next few years.
I think Jerico Nelson will make this team. Could possibly beat out Amaya for a roster spot. Spags gave him very high praise, and Spags seems like a guy reluctant to give out praise publicly. He said Jerico said something in a huddle that 5 year vets dont even get. Im pulling for the N.O. native.
Keep an eye on LB Kadarron Anderson, I heard he has been getting a ton of snaps as 2nd team Mike LB. He's a guy that could possibly make it, espcially if Vilma's suspension holds.
I'd keep an eye on Cadet, we are deep at RB, but all takes is 1 or 2 injuries and we are thin again. Probably a practice squad guy or IR stash to take over the 5th RB spot like Joique Bell, who went to the Lions.
Hard to say anything about the linemen at this point.

IMO just Nelson makes the 53, but Cadet, Givens, one of Nelson or Gumbs and maybe Beyah will be on the PS.

The only UDFA I see making this roster would be from the safety position because all of the other positions are pretty solid in depth behind the starters so I think Nelson or one of the other UDFA Safeties will make the 53. I think Givens will definetly be a PS candidate unless we decide to do some suffling in the recieving corps with an out with the old in with the new mentality...but I dont see big personal changes when Payton is not in the building or giving input ( Though I think they are communicating with Payton via pigeons ).
There is talent on the Dline, Safety and WR position on this roster we will definelty see new players at all three of those positions when it comes time to put together the final roster.
