I see bigger things happening from Jenkins, especially if he is allowed to play more of a "center field" role in Spags defense. Sort of like what Sharper was able to do.

Ken Flajole - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"He was the defensive coordinator of the St. Louis Rams of the National Football League (NFL) from 2009 to 2011. Prior to that he served as linebackers coach for the Carolina Panthers from 2003 to 2008. Flajole replaced Sal Sunseri as defensive assistant in 2003, bringing with him five years of NFL coaching experience. He spent three seasons as defensive backs coach and one as linebackers coach with the Seattle Seahawks from 1999-2002 and one as a defensive assistant with the Green Bay Packers in 1998. As defensive backs coach for Seattle in 1999, Flajole's secondary led the NFL with 30 interceptions, including two that were returned for touchdowns. He spent the 2000 campaign as the Seahawks linebackers coach and returned to oversee the defensive backs in 2001 and 2002.
It's interesting he mentioned the coaching, i didn't know much about Flajole. The guy
has some good credentials. Had some great success in Seattle and did well with the
Rams despite many injuries.
Malcolm should have many opportunities to be a big play maker this year under Spags'
system, can't wait to see how they weave this tapestry of players together.
Thanks for the post.

He essentially played center field all last season since it seemed like Harper blitzed every down.. GW ran a lot of cover 1 with Jenkins deep..

He played more prevent than anything, there was nothing centerfield about what he did. We had a one man safety scheme. His closing speed is crazy. that man was playing like 25 yards off the ball way too much, sharper had a more traditional role. I remember more 2 deep safety looks. We need to get back to that

Not saying I doubt him, but last year I got hyped up into thinking he was going to be some kind of second coming of Ed Reed. I won't let my expectations run that high. I do expect improvement though. He sometimes seemed to get to the receiver a step too late to prevent the catch. He might jar the ball loose with a crucial hit sometimes, but more often he'd just prevent much YAC, which ain't bad, but I hope to see more.

GW almost never used 2 deep safeties b/c he saw Harper as an in the box defender, whether he was blitzing or just playing the run.. And Sharper made many of his INTs from the single high safety spot.. He just knew where to go to get the ball.. And 2 deep safeties doesn't equate to 'playing center field' b/c you have 2 defenders splitting the field responsibilities.. The term 'playing center field', as I've heard it used, and is typically when you have 1 safety responsible for the deep middle of the field, usually in a cover 1 scheme..

Sharper didn't play nearly as much prevent as we saw jenkins last season. In 09 harper and sharper played much more traditional than we did last year at least at the snap that is what we saw. Last season was a ridiculous scheme. Never seen anything like it

Sharper pretty much did what he wanted back there.

I hope the changes Malcolm is seeing extends to his hands being able to consistently catch the football.

Wasn't it Jenkins that got burned TWICE in the last two drives by the 49ers for big yardage?
