Michael Lombardi liked our 3rd round pick
On SVP radio. Ryen asked who else did well in the draft after they talked about the 1st round, he named about half a dozen teams and said he liked the DT we got in the third round considering how late our first pick was.
I mean obviously with 3rd being the highest we weren't probably going to draft the next calvin johnson, but good to hear someone elses opion besides walterfootball or whatever...

Ive said it once and I'll say it again... if we drafted a player he was chosen by the finest scouting department in the NFL. The opinions of Mr. Loomis and Mr. Reipreish are the only ones that matter to me. How many times have you seen a phenomenal collegiate talent flop in the NFL? Probably about as many times as youve seen a small school college prospects that has succeeded in the NFL.

I like the pick.
We just live in a socient of immediate gratification. If he isnt All-Pro this year we feel it was a wasted pick. I feel like if he becomes a solid contributor in a year or 2 it was a good pick....if he becomes any more than that, it is a STEAL! .

What I get a kick out of is that many of these "draft experts" labeled Meach as a bust after his first year, but now wonder how the Saints will replace such a productive performer. Meach is a perfect example of why I really do not get into the draft, or more specifically the "grades" given afterwards. Just like in life, no one cares where you went to school three years after you graduated, they just want to see that you can produce.

Gotta love it right?
I dont care about draft grades and stuff like that. It's just conjecture.
I like guys who just break down how a prospects skillset can be intergrated in our team. That's all I pretty much care about.

Props to Todd McShay who refuses to do draft grades. He's still an idiot but this alone makes him less of an idiot than Kiper.

Glad he likes it, but frankly this "grading" thing for a draft that ended Saturday is ridiculous. If these so-called journalists are really THAT good at drafting, why aren't they trying to get jobs as GMs? It would pay a lot more and then they could prove they are always right, which is obviously what they all think. Basically, they "grade" depending on if a team took a player they would have taken in that spot. Take a player from a small school, or a school in Canada, and they claim the Saints are "arrogant" or worse.
Frankly, you can take all the talking heads who think their grades are the end all and be all and throw them in the midde of the Atlantic, if you ask me. Peter King, in his MMQB for today got that one thing right, if nothing else: Grading the NFL draft days after it ends is like giving final grades the first day of a term. How would any of you who are students like to get your final grade the first day of class? Do you think that would be fair? Let me know, because it would make my job a LOT easier, I can tell you.

Actually, it's the talking heads that should be graded in the first place. They basically are predicting what player a team will take at what position and in what round. If the team that they predicted to take so and so at no.5 in round 1, and they don't get that pick right, it's an F. If they get it right it's an A or you can take the entire draft and see how many they got right as to what a particular team took at a particular spot in the draft and if they got more right than wrong then their grad would reflect how they did not how the team that drafted did. What makes them more right than the team doing the drafting. The people on the team that's drafting have their jobs to worry about, not the prognosticators.

I might be in the minority but i like McShay and i think he would benefit greatly from working himself on the draft for ESPN, Kiper is well past his sell by date and found myself agreeing more or less all the time with McShay on ESPN'S First Draft podcast.
Mayock is still the best though.

I've gone back and forth on McShay. At first I liked him but then I realized that the main reason was that he wasn't Kiper. I still like him marginally better than Kiper although his stubborn refusal to do draft grades boosted him substantially. Mayock is by far the best of the TV draft analysts.
