That's also what I assumed. New to the city years ago trying to meet people kind of thing, not a current profile.

And the supposed author is Mac Cerullo? What is going on here? Not involved in a scandal. Wow.

Not implying anything--just observing that Mac Cerullo and Mike Cerullo are very similar names. Samuel Clemens = Mark Twain and all that.
Edit: Search at uconn.edu connects Mac Cerullo to the student paper, where he is not listed as Managing Editor. That could be meaningless, however, since he may have graduated or simply doesn't work there any more. The connection would work because it's in the article, of course.

So mike cerullo has been penning articles for several years at a small college paper in anticipation of protecting himself from future anonymous linkings to scandal by making a joke about no scandals, and throwing in how tight he is with the saints

I just think it's curious that the writer did not mention that they have the same last name. It's not as though they were both named Smith.

The entire article was about how he always wished he'd have the same name as a big coach so he'd accidentally get emails - and then a coach with the same name arrived and he got a couple emails.

Your are correct. I was so eager to get to the meat of the article that I missed the begininng of it. Moral: read the whole thing carefully.
Really for the Florio thread: See, I flip flopped. No, the evidence showed that I was wrong. There's a difference.

He mentions it in this article Column: It wasn't me - Sports - The Daily Campus - University of Connecticut
Quote:
|
I had the opportunity to meet coach Cerullo for a column I wrote last semester, and while I wasn’t able to get ahold of him by print time for this column, one thing we discussed then seemed ironically relevant today. Since we have the same name, we joked that it was a shame nobody sent me any juicy emails intended for him by mistake. “Too bad I wasn’t involved in any scandal,” he said.
|
to me the most interesting part of that article was this part
Quote:
I do hope that this situation doesn’t end up hurting Cerullo in the long run; he has a new family and two daughters to care for. Luckily, he is currently in the final stages of becoming the new Director of Football Operations at Princeton University, according to the Hartford Courant’s Desmond Conner.
Good for him. It would be a real shame if he and his family had to suffer for what he’s done.
|
This makes me believe it actually is the same person. This was way too personal of a statement for somebody who only met the guy 1 time.

The only way these two could be the same person is if Mac Cerullo made up the beginning of the column. That's unlikely because his fellow reporters would know if there really was a Mac Cerullo or not. And there would be student records from UConn to examine. Ultimately, this debate seems pretty insignificant unless Mac Cerullo is a fictitious person--and I now doubt that that's true. However, we have seen how apparent truths turn out to be misintepretations.

I just got back from vacation and found this thread to be very interesting. Cerullo, being terminated from the Saints right after they won the SB, would not have set well with him. After reading about how hard he worked to get to the NFL, I can understand him not being happy with the Saints and having a huge axe to grind.

thats one thing that stuck out to me - how hard he worked and how happy he seemed in the very little i could find on him- it must have felt like the rug just totally got pulled out from under him. thats part of why i was curious about what led up to it...

We would need to start with reports C-18450-10, B-22482-10 and C-25120-10. I think that would probably cover it for $75. I'd contribute to that.
The other option would be a background report on him for $50 and that would end it because we'd see any reports with his name on it?
Thoughts?
