Mortensen: Brees will not report to training camp without long term deal. [MERGED - Keep Discussion Here]
Is this a last ditch power play by Brees to try to get Loomis to move?

So he will sit out if he doesn't get a long term deal?

That's what Chris Mortensen is saying. I still think he has a long term deal on Monday, and this is moot.

Right. Drew Brees will never play under the franchise tag again. We knew that...didn't we?
Hopefully he just signs the damn contract so it's not an issue ever again.

Im starting to worry. If he misses training camp I don't see him playing this season, even though he said he would never sit out.

Well Drew, I guess all you gotta do now is sign the damn contract!

No, Mort is saying that Drew would sit out training camp and possibility the entire preseason if a long term deal isn't done by July 16. He could show up on August 31st and sign a one year contract to play the regular season.

I'm so sick of hearing about this. NO ONE knows what the heck is going on besides Brees' camp or Loomis' camp. This is all a non story until the 16th. Until then, I could care less what everyone's "source" says.

Suggesting he would sit? Doubt it. He can sit out the preseason and still get his Franchise money. If he sits out the year, he's giving up 17 million. I know they've threatened it, but I can't see it at all. It would take several years of a bigger contract to make up that money and that's a large risk.

If he passes on a 100 million dollar long-term contract offer, what in the name of all that is logical makes anyone think he would hesitate to pass on a 17-million dollar one-year deal?

Point taken. Also why I think this is moot. He'll sign on Monday. I'm not sweating yet.
