I am wondering if we could help make a difference by contacting all owners, especially Benson, to protest this ruling. Baddell works FOR the owners and it is possible that enough texts, emails, tweets, etc could prod the owners into forcing Baddell into changing the punishment.

I guarantee you he informally and confidentially spoke to a core group of owners about the direction he was going to take. You're exactly right - he works for them. They're his boss. He made sure he was within their shared vision for the future of the league when he took this hugely unprecedented step.
The owners are scared to death that they're going to get sued by the NFLPA and/or former players for not protecting the players' safety. The NFL can't appear to not be doing enough to protect the players.
