Saints are working on a restructured deal for DE Will Smith. Not done, but progressing.

@TonyPauline reported today #LSU coaches aren't giving DE Sam Montgomery a "ringing endorsement" to NFL teams. Not a good sign for him.

That is disappointing. He's done nothing for years now & they still want him on the team?

All I know is that this better result in a lower cap hit if we end up cutting him afterwards than we'd have if we cut him now.

Why wouldn't you want him on the team if it is at a good price?
He may not be a great player anymore but he brings everything else you would want in a veteran defensive player.

Indeed, as Dickson noted, Brees seems almost compelled to lead. He doesn't do it out of obligation. With him, it seems to happen almost reflexively, like breathing.

Maybe they think THIS coordinator can bring the best out of him. You know how we spent all last offseason hearing how he was going to be a beast under Spags but he flopped so now it's Ryan's turn and he'll be a beast under him.
Reality is that because of the pro-rated bonus he'll still cost a lot to cut, so we can still give him a pay cut and it be cheaper for us to keep him than cut him. Loomis screwed up when he signed him to that long term deal so now we are just trying to make the best out of a bad situation.

Absolutely, I would do back flips if we could keep him at veterans minimum.

His production warrants a veterans minimum or a spot on the bench.

Really? He isn't star material anymore but he is a legit starter.
