Something's up here anyway, but the fact this conveniently occurred on Friday absolutely stinks. The entire NFL organisation is in Radio City and we're supposed to believe this guy is quietly back at the office typing up his letter of resignation? I don't buy it. This was calculated to be swept under the carpet.

Haha, that's the first thing that came to my mind as well. During the course of investigating the Saints, he received reports of similar systems from several other clubs. Goddell told him to focus on the Saints because evidence of this being widespread in the league would help the retired players' case against the league, and the NFL could send a warning to the other teams by being very heavy-handed against the Saints and at the same time appear concerned with player safety.

If Congress does indeed look into the whole "Bounty" mess as rumored this guy is bound to have answer some questions under oath Goodell doesn't want answered. There is testimony that Gregg Williams brought this same PfP system wherever he coached. But Goodell claimed there was no evidence. Having to cover Goodell's posterior in front of Congress under oath isn't exactly a rosy scenario. Goodell would throw this guy under the bus the second things got the least bit rocky. Knowing that I'd want out too (and a plane ticket to Mexico).

FOX 8 Sports has learned that Joe Hummel is leaving his post as director of investigative services for the NFL in June.
Hummel, a former FBI agent who was instrumental in the Saints bounty investigation, told FOX 8's Fred Hickman that he's leaving to take the vice presidency at Mutual of America -- a major promotion in every way for the 58-year-old man.
|
Reported last Friday by Fox 8-New Orleans
And still hasn't been mentioned by anyone in the media until PFT today.

I bet the first person he calls when he resigns is Sean Payton.
Hummel: Sean im sorry.
Sean: I know you were just following orders from the commish.
Hummel: Yeah i cant take the hypocrisy anymore, i had to get out.
Sean: can you play the bongos?
