Saints, Cardinals players reportedly mock replacement officials
Saints, Cardinals players reportedly mock replacement officials - NFL - SI.com
Quote:
Players noted that not a single, non-special teams holding penalty was called, which is unusual for the first preseason game of the year. Players said officials forgot to move the marker after a 3-yard loss. After an incomplete it should have been third-and-13 but the marker showed third-and-10. Also, players claimed holding was called on a Saints punt play, and it took the officials four attempts to correctly spot the football.
"We were all laughing on the sidelines at how clueless they were," one player told CBSSports.com.
Players say they began mocking the officials, and the players said the officials argued among themselves.

It is a shame that the NFL has gone this far in allowing replacement referees and not paying the current ones. The NFL has surely changed recently, for the worse.

Way to be an advocate for player safety goodell. March on protecting your “integrity” of the game. Pfft commissioner please…

And this can't help the NFL's position against the current NFL referees that are locked out. Goddell is causing the league to lose at everything he touches. It's kind of like Midas only he is closer to the ten plagues.

I've been as vocal as anybody in criticizing the league for allowing them to call a game. However the officials themselves are just trying to do a job that is very difficult and they don't deserve to be mocked. Whoever was doing that, Saints, Cardinals or both, should be ashamed.

Indeed. Honestly the less than ideal officiating shouldn't have surprised anyone. It's the hall of fame game, it's the first time they're getting out there together and calling a game like this. Of course it's going to be bumpy at first. Lets just hope it smoothes out for the regular season. I'm sure it's a difficult job and there's a lot of pressure on these guys so I hope people can at least see that.

Incompetent officials jeopardize the safety of these players every second they're out there bungling around. If the players have no respect for them, it needs to be reported. I predict our fearless leader Roger Dodger will have a deal cut with the refs after another 2 weeks of this mess.

We can count on a league investigation on Saints Drive before the end of the week. Draft picks, suspensions and fines looming.

The holding call in the endzone that they missed was pretty blatant.. Saints 19 Cards 10

If Goodell keeps strong-arming everyone to the detriment of the league, his ego will get fired.

Sad thing is, I've seen worse holding calls against Will Smith not called.
One call that really stood out to me was the punt Arizona supposedly downed inside the 1-yard line. The Cardinals player slid into the end zone after he "downed" the ball. Should have been a touchback.
