Unfair officiating this season?
With the disreputable image placed on the Saints this off-season along with Vilma publicly calling out Goodell and the NFL; Do you think the Saints could be targeted with bias and unfair officiating during the season? Do you think Goodell will use his almighty powers to influence the officials to penalize the Saints as much as possible?
Your thoughts.

Don't we get unfair officiating every season? Never forget games like Tennessee

I don't expect unfair officiating, but I do expect crappier than usual officiating if they use replacement refs.

Maybe that's one reason the refs are not coming to terms with the nfl.

I don't know if Goodell will have any influence, but I do think there may be more roughing and unsportmanlike calls against us (more than normal), as the eyes of the refs will be looking at us more closely and will have more iffy calls going against us.

Despite Goodell painting Saints players as mercenary outlaws bent on injuring players for money, statistics show that just isn't true. The refs feel they are getting a raw deal from the NFL, and if some of them are following Vilma's case, and I think they are, they know he got royally screwed by The NFL. I do not think they will be easier on the saints, but I don't think they will go out of their way to punish us just because Goodell wants them to.
If Goodell puts replacement refs on the field, his "player safety above all else" fake mantra will be totally exposed.

Yep. I also expect us to be under a microscope as far as reviewing games and issuing fines. Im not saying we will get more fines, only that the NFL will scrutinize a little more.

Agree about game reveiws and fines because Goodell controls those.

I don't see it. His ego is not going to allow him to show that he hasn't settled the matter already.
If he continues to bird-dog us it'll get picked up on and reflect badly on him. I think he's fully aware of that danger. The league wants this settled.
Besides, Spags is running the D now and he's universally respected in the NFL. Any questioning would be an affront to his reputation.

Probably not. There will always be misses and BS calls, but this was allegedly about locker room talk. On the field, the Saints were never abnormally penalized and played pretty clean. Despite them being replacements, or whatever is happening, the Refs are the one factor I'm not worried about.

18-game season plus refs who were dropped by their college conferences (!!!) does not equal any concern for player safety whatsoever.

It can't be any worse than it was last year. That was some of the worst officiating I have seen in my 32 years of being a Saints fan.
On a different note though, I do worry about opposing defenses taking shots at Brees in retaliation for the bogus bounty accusations.
