I've really noticed a lot of trolls on this board lately. Many new post-ers who joined after bounty gate. We always have some simpletons, but lately people talking they are ashamed of the saints...yada yada. We've had a ton of trolls....

This is still such a pile of steaming ****. Where is the proof yet? How do we know that Loomis and Payton did nothing to stop this? How come there was no activity on this whole thing for 2 years, then we get this new evidence. What is this evidence? Who is the witness with this new testimony? How do we know that there was any money actually paid out? If there's no paper trail then it's all just heresay. If this was a court of law this case would be thrown out the minute it was filed. The Saints can't even confront its accusers. The NFL is a joke.

He admitted

"I want to express my sincere regret and apology to the NFL, (Saints owner) Mr. (Tom) Benson, and the New Orleans Saints fans for my participation in the 'pay for performance' program while I was with the Saints," Williams, now defensive coordinator for the St. Louis Rams, said in a statement. "It was a terrible mistake, and we knew it was wrong while we were doing it. Instead of getting caught up in it, I should have stopped it. I take full responsibility for my role. I am truly sorry. I have learned a hard lesson and I guarantee that I will never participate in or allow this kind of activity to happen again."

"Participation in" seems pretty clear.
That's from ESPN which it seems most of you don't believe but you'll likely find that quote on many sources.

Actually, that's pretty ambiguous.

What he's saying is he participated in the program and takes responsiblility for his role without implying, implicitly or explicitly, what his role was. I've seen no proof out of any camp showing Gregg Williams put up his own - or the team's - money in this program.

Williams has not admitted that there was a bounty system for injuring players. Just a pay for performance. Huge difference

By the way, it's since come out that there was NO "bounty" program in place for the 2011 season. Also, Benson was informed of the investigation a few days before the decision not to attempt to retain Williams was made.
That implies a couple things:
1) The team stopped having a bounty program (I have to explicitly state that for trolls like blackcatfan who is clearly a panthers fan and Senor who is a fan of a team that is not the Saints...)
2) Benson, Loomis, and Payton got rid of the person who was responsible for the "bounty" program.
Intelligent and objective fans who possess critical think ability can see that this is a classic example of media sensationalism and manufacturing of selective and false outrage.

It's the current headline.
I don't "wish" an asterisk on anybody's Lombardi. I'm just pointing out that it's there, especially in the eyes of many non-Saints fans. That's no different than the steroid riddled Steeler teams, cap bypassing Broncos (and 9ers). It was most interesting to see the many "ends justifies the means" type posts. While an (*) may be a little over the top, I think a true football fan has to at least acknowledge a (?).
Barbs and troll? Not to all. I enjoy discussion but not all welcome opposing views. Mods and admins give the "home team" a lot of leeway justified or not. Eventually, all message boards get dominated by fans of a single team. You're never welcome unless willing to rah rah with the rest. I don't try to be welcome. The better discussions are in PMs anyway.

Thank you for bringing up the cap violations of the Broncos and 49ers. What they did drastically compromised the competitive balance of the game, and it was WORSE than "bounty gate".
Logically, the punishment for "bounty gate" should be less harsh than the punishment for those cap violations.
