Where did "who dat" come from
These two words are what you guys are known for, but I always wanted to know where it came from. My Raiders have "JUST WIN BABY". But where did you guys's slogan come from?

nobody knows. There are many different accounts. Per this writer, it began with various minstrel shows in the late 19th century.

Yeah, I always thought it came from that gospel song "when the saints go marching in", but then in that case it must go back WAAAAY further than that

The simple answer is that in And around New Orleans there is a common accent that Turns TH into D. So THAT becomes DAT. Then in a 60's radio broadcast of a Saints game, a local announcer pronounced "who DAT says gonna beat dem saints" after a win. That saying stuck and has now been shortened into just Who DAT.

It started in Minstrel shows, and translated into football through a local high school, Saint Augustine. St. Aug started using Who Dat in the late 70s and it quickly spread to Southern University and later to the Saints. It landed in the dome sometime around 81-83.
Of course Who Dat was first, and has been around the greater New Orleans area for literally centuries. Anyone who claims otherwise is foolish (looking at you Bengal fans).

I know it was used back in the 20's around Jazz musicians and was a part of Minstrel shows before that. One horn players would challenge another with a solo, then say "Who Dat" then the other would asnwer back with their solo. It was adopted into sports with Southern University (college), then St. Augustine (highschool football), then it was picked up by the Saints in around '81 and was used in the hit song "When the Saints go marching in" which made it stick as a common saying amoung Saints fans. The "Who Dey" vs "who Dat" isn't even a real argument unless Cincinatti can show us that their culture was saying it back in the 20's.

reading that wikipedia article made me wonder if the who dat fracas of 2010 is the source of goodell's beef with us. maybe he's a really bad loser and has been fuming ever since the league had to backtrack over the who dat claim. maybe he saw the opportunity to stick it to the fanbase that made him look bad. well done, roger, you mad genius.

This is the answer
I was at those st Aug/Jesuit games when this really became a big chant
it was kinda cool and pretty intimidating
