Is Will Smith the best DE in Saints History?
My first instinct is to say no way, after all the Defense in the late 80's / early 90's was so great. The Dome patrol however, where all LB's and our line during those years was not that great.
I believe (after much thought) that he is in fact the best (True DE) in saints history. He plays the run very well, and can consistantly sack the QB 10 to 12 times a year. He also plays very smart.
I would even go so far as to call him the second best draft pick by the saints in the past decade. (Behind only Duece)... and maybe Evans?

Absolutely not. How can this thought even enter your head? Just to name a few, there's Joe Johnson, Doug Atkins, and Wayne Martin.

I'd go with Wayne Martin, but Will Smith is up there. He may be, pound for pound, our most well rounded and complete DE. Easily put him in our top 5 in my opinion.

Wayne Martin, since I can remember watching him play, is number 1.

Martin was my -- well the only favorite player left on the squad when Ditka came in. He was let loose for salary cap space. He took it as well as anyone could. He faded into retirement. But with 82.5 career sacks in 10 years, and the model of consistency, he's hard to beat out. He was the face of franchise when the franchise became mediocre in the late 90's. He was humble too, which everyone appreciates. WAYNE MARTIN -- best DE in Saints franchise history.
Though, I think Rickey Jackson spent a few snaps at DE, But he was the best line backer ever, technically.

He's the best one to help us win our first ever Super Bowl.
Will is underrated. He beats his guy and gets held all the time and never gets the calls.

He can? He's topped 10 sacks twice in 8 seasons.

Colston, Evans, and Nicks should all be ahead of Will IMO. And if punting was a little more important, I'd put Morstead up there as well. While Smith is a good DE, those guys are all top players at their positions. And Deuce is a no-brainer.
So I'd have Will as the 5th or 6th best draft pick in the past decade. And he may be the best 4-3 DE in team history.
