2012 New Orleans Hornets depth chart
I have two scenarios in my head. One where we stay put and pick at 10 and one where we trade back. What do you guys think looks better?
3 team trade. Boston gets number 10 overall pick from New Orleans, Orlando gets Trevor Ariza from New Orleans and overall picks 21 and 22 from Boston, New Orleans gets overall picks 19 and 49 from Orlando and 51 from Boston
PG - Jack/Vasquez/Jordan Taylor
SG - Gordon/Belinelli/Henry
SF - Moe Harkless/Aminu/Thomas
PF - Anthony Davis/Smith/Ayon
C - Okafor/Kaman/Justin Hamilton
No Ariza or Landry. Landry costs too much money and Ariza is pretty much as good as he's going to get at this point in his career, I know he's only 26, but he's been playing 8 years now. Harkless has the same length and defense but with more quickness and more potential offensively. Hamilton reminds me a lot of a younger Kaman. Good touch offensively and has the size and athleticism to be a good rebounder and decent shot blocker. Could be Kaman's replacement down the road. Jordan Taylor is more of a scorer than a passer and I think he would be a good 3rd option at PG and could play SG if needed, overall a good change of pace at point.
If we are to stay put and pick at 10
PG - Jack/Vasquez/FA
SG - Gordon/Belinelli/FA
SF - Ariza/Aminu/FA
PF - Anthony Davis/Smith/Ayon
C - Okafor/Tyler Zeller/FA
Landry is gone for sure and if we keep Ariza we are going to have to let Kaman go as he costs more than Okafor. We would then draft the most NBA ready center in the draft with Tyler Zeller and pick up another center in free agency, maybe Spencer Hawes or another player who could fill the gap without breaking the bank. With the money we save by letting Kaman and Landry go ($22 million+) we can sign some quality shooters and bring a little balance to our defensive minded team.
There are a lot of really good players in the draft we could build our team around along with Anthony Davis. Kendall Marshall looks like he is going to be a really good point guard but I like Jack's leadership and scoring and Vasquez's decision making. Gordon is as solid a scorer as anyone in the NBA but if he doesn't stay healthy we are not going to make the playoffs. Terrence Ross would be a good choice at number 10 if he's there. Moe Harkless is a guy that I think is going to rise up the boards in the next few weeks if he performs well at his workouts. He isn't the shooter that Barnes is or the athlete MKG is but he is a nice mix of the two and could end up being a superstar. I know some of you think Aminu can be the guy for us at SF but he hasn't shown it yet.

I like Ariza, and don't understand why so many people want him gone. He is being paid well, he is contributing when he can, and most teams would kill for a guy like him on their team.
Why so many people want him gone is beyond me.

I don't care for Ariza because my expectations for him were very high and he hasn't turned into the elite player I thought he could be. He's a good SF but not great. The Hornets have enough good players, we need some elite talent. Gordon is the only elite player on our team and he has serious injury concerns. Anthony Davis is going to be great but he's not going to single handedly make us a championship contender. I think if we draft Zeller or Meyers Leonard with the 10th pick, we would be setting ourselves up for many years of really good basketball in New Orleans. There aren't many teams who kid handle the presence of Davis and Leonard/Zeller on the court at the same time. Ariza is not a bad player at all and his defense sets the tone for the Hornets but I want to see the Hornets with a LeBron, Durant, or Carmelo type of player at SF. There are so many options the Hornets could go with, I'm just going to let it play out and support the team regardless because I think our coach is great and with the new ownership the Hornets could be a great team in the near future.
