Musing about the Hornets
i have been a fan of the team since they were in Charlotte.... thats besides the point.
my friends and i have come up with a conspiracy theory that the league wants new orleans to have the #1 pick to make up for losing cp3. the additional high first round pick and the likely resigning of gordon makes this franchise a contender immediately next season.
i honestly think pieces are in motion for Benson to buy the team. the initial offer from the Lakers coupled with the trade to Dallas was better for the Hornets in every way so it was nixed by stern under the guise of "value"....so we get a very shoddy deal from the Clippers. if we see a salary dump by trade deadline than this theory becomes a reality.
stern has previously stated that the team will not be sold if only to move to another city. i personally think he is sweetening the pot.

In a very brief interview last night on Fox8 news, Eric Gordon stated that he will test free agency in the summer as a restricted free agent. Granted the hornets will have the option to match any offer, but it didn't really sound like he wanted to be here. I hope my interpretation is wrong....but it sure didn't sound like it.

He never wanted to be here. He is renting a house. You really think a bruised knee constitutes being out 2 months?

Two things......
1. Of course he is testing the market, and we want him to. He can sign for one more year at 5mil then leave or test the market and get a big 50-60 million deal that the Hornets will likely match, keeping him here long term.
2. If he was worried about driving his price up, wouldn't he be playing?

he has deep pockets and a lot of pride... i think he would make a good owner as well...maybe he can work out a TV deal with FOX8... win/win for all the folks who cant get CST and a useful alliance in the NOLA sports apparatus.
i think when emeka and kaman are traded away we will have a mother ton of salary cap space and 2 lucrative draft choices...gordon might be getting a ring in new orleans if the ownership/management doesnt **** the bed...

Anyone else sick of all the Monty Williams interviews? this guy has to invent new ways almost everyday to tell the media that they just lack talent this year which we all knew would be the case when CP3 was dealt and the first trade was nixed.
You can't judge this team until you give Williams atleast another two years to build around what they will be able to get in the draft, some of these overpaid players get dealt at some point and demps pulling off some creative trades. Monty sounds like a broken record, I don't know what else people expect him to say other than what Rickey Jackson once said all those years ago, "WE STINK!".

Whats the deal with Kaman's contract? He seems to be twice the center Okafor is and he's only 29.
Why are we so hell-bent to trade him when he's capable of nights like last night (27 and 13)?? Whats his contract situation? Is it just because its expiring?
Gordon, Kaman and two top 10 draft picks sounds like a lot of potential to me.

KAMAN needs to stay if we get the #1 pick he can be the big body we need at center to let anthony davis grow into a KG type player for us and if we get gordon next year we need to add danny granger and a point guard like aaron brooks but we need to keep kaman...I think we need to draft DAVIS AND KID-GILCHIST incase GORDON knee don't heal and he have problems KID-GILCHIST CAN PLAY RITE AWAY...But with KAMAN size ANTHONY DAVIS CAN BE A BEAST WITH OUR DEFENSE...BUT OKAFOR SHOULD BE TRADED WE CAN USE THE MONEY OR THE DRAFT PICK...

In short, you and your friends are right.
It was never about the hornets, or "basketball reasons". Basketball Reasons make the nixed trade better in every way. It can also be argued that all the pieces you guys were getting were trade-able assets. It was never about big market vs small market otherwise they don't give CP3 to the clippers either.
It was about not letting the Lakers rightfully and fairly acquire the best PG in the league, whilst at the same time dumping their own salary, and driving the ability to win now down for the Hornets giving them at shot at #1 pick and dumping salary to make the team look more appealing to any prospective buyers. I'm sure he didn't think Minnesota would be as good as they've been either.
David Stern does not care about New Orleans or the Hornets, David Stern cares about selling the Hornets and not having the leagues image potentially take a hit by having a team bail on New Orleans.

Good enough for me...
Seriously, I can suffer through a terrible season because theres a light at the end of the tunnel. We have a top 3 pick coming our way, hopefully a new owner, another top 10-12 pick AND trade-able assets in Kaman, Okafor, and Gordon if we choose not to keep some or all of them.
The future of the Hornets really hinges on new ownership and good management to turn these assets into something real. I think this city can suffer one awful season to get a bonafide exciting young star to rally around. We can't suffer multiple terrible seasons or this fan base will crumble. They haven't been here long enough to have a permanent Saints-style fan base.

kaman is the best guy on the team now, absolutely beastmode last 2 games... he is the offensive engine and needs to be retained with aminu.
i would like to trade mec and ariza and stop winning....essentially we are playing for andrew luck.
i would also like to see if a)gordon goes to orlando or somewhere else or b)if he will return if we have a serious owner...it is not a surprise that he wants out....maybe with legitimate ownership he stays and like previously stated gordon, aminu, kaman, landry and 2 1st round picks might be enough to go worst to first in our division.
