The Pelicans (or The 'Pels') were a basebal team in NOLA for over 70 years-- and Benson owns the rights to the name.. Expect the basketball team to be renamed the Pelicans.
Quote:
The Pelicans' name briefly resurfaced during the 1977 season when oilman A. Ray Smith moved his Triple-A Tulsa Oilers to New Orleans to play in the Superdome. Tony La Russa was the starting shortstop for the team. After a single season, the team then moved to Springfield, Illinois, and were re-named the Redbirds. Rights to the New Orleans Pelicans name are currently owned by Tom Benson, owner of the NFL's New Orleans Saints and the NBA's New Orleans Hornets.

Personally, I think the one of the Cajun terms for alligator, "Cai'mon" would be kinda cool.

My first choice would be VooDoo. But, I also like Brass, Halos, and to some extent Arcangels. The last two have a real Saints connection, like Chicago has the Bears and the Cubs.

I dislike Krewe and Voodoo. They're too kitschy.

I voted for Krewe but I like your suggestions as well.

I like Voodoo, but we already had a team named Voodoo. My hope is that we don't bring back any old team names -- those names are part of those teams, and this team needs a completely new start.
I'd be ok with a generic name even -- Bulldogs. Just cause it'd be something new.
I'd also be excited about Krewe.

Jazz - awesome if it becomes possible
Voodoo - my first choice otherwise
Next group of reasonably good choices:
Hurricanes
Krewe
Revelers
Jesters
Pirates
Brass
Please no:
Wahoo - just not LA enough
Pelicans - sounds like baseball, needs to stay there
Gators - couldn't take it living here in FL...
Mudbugs - minor league
Crawfish - minor league
Storm - bland
Buccaneers - Milwaukee Bucks, TB Bucs
Privateers- UNO
Blues - not clearly NOLA, jazz is
