Report: Phoenix Suns to make Eric Gordon a ‘large offer’

Quote:
The Phoenix Suns are preparing to make restricted free agent Eric Gordon a “large offer” with approximately $23 million in salary-cap space, The Arizona Republic’s Paul Coro reported Saturday.
The New Orleans Hornets, though, have already reportedly promised to match any offer for Gordon, even if it ends up being a maximum-level contract of five years and $80 million. If Gordon signed an offer sheet with the Suns, the Hornets would have three days to match it.
Coro breaks down why an offer could make sense for the Suns. If Gordon signs and the Hornets don’t match, the Suns would get a prolific wing scorer. If not, it would show fans they are committed to spending.

That report is wrong. The most the Suns can offer is 4yr $55.2mil.

12.9 in the first year, with only 4.5% increases for the 3 years after.

Exactly. And we will match that. We have all the leverage here, Gordon will remain a Hornet. I can't wait for it to be official so we can stop hearing about all these teams after Gordon.

Love the Rockets trade. We surround Davis with Terrance Jones, Rivers, and another young player (Royce White, Lamb, or Donatas Montiejuns). PLUS we get another high pick cause that roster wont win too many games while the young guys develop, PLUS we should save about 8 mil in cap space with the 3 extra rookie contract as opposed to a max contract for Gordon.

Basically the trade is Gordon for:
1)2 starting caliber young players
2)Kevin Martin (another trade asset?)
3)8 mil in cap space (Martin is an expiring contract)
4)Substantially higher draft position (Nerlans Noel or Shabaz?)

This deal could give us a legitimate shot at being a championship caliber team. Small market teams gotta take chances and this is as good a time as ever to swing for the fences.

Fans don't mind a bad team as long as there is hope. Fans gave up on the old Hornets because we watched a once promising team fall from grace slowly but surely. Now we have the opportunity to watch the reverse.
