We've already brought in a lower calorie Rudy Fernandez in Marco Belinelli. Roughly the same size, athletic, can stroke it from deep, can get to the rack when the desire hits him, and is quick on his feet so he shouldn't be too bad on D.

Because the money matched, and when they asked for collison the hornets should have said no or asked for someone else. We pretty much just gave collison away, I would have rather given them juju.

I see alot of people have never seen Ariza play. In noway shape or form did we just give Collison away.
If I had to choose between the two, I'd take Ariza over Collison.
and if you think Ariza=Posey, not only have you never seen Ariza play but you've never seen Posey play either.
This is alot like the Jammal Brown trade, alot of people had in their mind what the player was worth. But when the player was traded and we got less than they expected, they think it's a bad deal. We got very good value for Collison. We weren't going to get an allstar for a backup PG.

i like the move, though I was hoping trading DC could have landed a big. Ariza steps right into the starting lineup.
BTW, I'm amazed people think we could have traded Posey or Wright and gotten someone like Ariza. This isn't NBA Live. Posey's dead weight, and Wright's a lost cause. Ariza's contract is not that bad considering his production and age. Posey was making the same amount, and wasn't contributing much. Ariza's got two more years, but we'll have cap space when that time comes. Who knows what the new CBA will bring?
I'm disappointed this probably rules us out of landing Melo. Not that there was a great chance, but now there's pretty much no chance.

Ariza is far better than Posey, I know all about Ariza but Collison is a starting point guard in this league and the hornets had the leverage with the Pacers knowing how desperate they needed a point guard so I am just saying we could have gotten Ariza and Hibbert out of the deal or at least Ariza and Kyle Lowry that would have given us a good back up point guard.
Now we still do not have any money freed up and still need to get a backup point guard and center.
But I really love that we have Ariza just didnt want him at the expense of Posey and collison, Posey and Juju yes but not Collison, we could have gotten more.
Rockets made the trade to Free up the long term money they had to pay Ariza, you really think they needed another small guard in Courtney lee.

I'm feeling the move... Strengthened our starting 5 for sure... We have been missing a player that has an all around game on both sides of the ball. (if he can pick up his free throw shooting) Ariza has a ton of starter qualities in his game... I'm siked for next season!!

Maybe we can get T.J. Ford for cheap maybe.
The Pacers are reportedly hoping to buyout the contract of T.J. Ford now that they have acquired point guard Darren Collison.

I can agree with that, though I don't think we could have gotten a much better wing than Ariza.
Arizas contract, vs production. I don't think it's bad, especially since his averages are likely to go up. Ariza averaged 15 points, 6 boards, 4 assists (stat sheet stuffer), and 2 steals last season and will make $6M this season. Another guy alot of people wanted in New Orleans was Rudy Gay.
Gay averaged 20, 6, 2, and 2 steals last season and will make $13M+, and he isn't anywhere near the defender Ariza is.
Gerald Wallace averaged 18, 10, 2, and 2 last season and he'll make 10M.
Luol Deng averaged 18, 7, 2, and 1 and he'll make 11M+.
I don't see a problem with Arizas contract.

I went over the HornetsReport.com to check this out and my god, they have some serious Ariza haters over there... I wanted to gouge my eyes out. I like this trade because another season of Peja at the 3 was making me shudder. I can still remember when he was guarding Melo 2 seasons ago in the playoffs, I swear I wanted to break things. We need a long, fast defender like Ariza, especially in the West where you have guys like Melo, Durant, and Kobe to contend with. Ariza instantly upgrades the position from a defensive standpoint. Belinelli will also take some pressure off MT and can handle and pass the ball as a point if need be.

Yes Ariza should make a much bigger stride coming from a scoring point guard in Aaron Brooks to a facilitator in Chris Paul. We now have someone to keep up with the Kobe's and Durants.

Anyone talking that Ariza is overpaid is kidding themselves.
Also, people seem to forget why Ariza got that phat contract in the first place. He was MONEY in the 2009 Finals. And he wasn't the Lakers 1st scoring option either. He sort of was in Houston, but won't be here.
He's been relegated back to being a complimentary piece now. And that should suit him just fine. The big stage brought out the big game in him.
If we want to be contenders, don't we want players that excell when the heat is on?

I love the combo of Ariza and DX. Like nolafan said above, people over-estimated Collison's value. But when you look at it, we went from complete uncertainty at SF to having a solid/potential all-star. All of a sudden, our starting lineup looks playoff-caliber. Sure, we lost a bit of depth, but Bellinelli has a great 3 and we're totally set at SG now. Just get a backup PG and another big and we're all set.
I also have to wonder if this could be preliminary move to get Melo. You would think they'd want someone in return that wasn't just an expiring and Collison would be undesired since they have Lawson and Billups, so now something like Ariza, Peja, and 1st? I don't know. But it's possible.
