Summer League Players Impression

DC: Like usual he looks great, looks to have even improved his confidence
strengths: speed, length, IQ, very unselfish and just has the brains, will be the best backup PG in the NBA this year.
weakness: saw him lose some ball control a few times but nothing to worry about
reminds me of cp3 sometimes

MT: Wow, looks even more explosive than last year, this year he will earn the credit he deserves
strengths: speed, explosiveness, natural scorer
weakness: height
reminds me of jason terry

Brackins: Looks like this kid has all the tools to be a good offensive PF, very nice jumpshot, hes a SF in a PF's body
strength: length, jumping ability, this kid can get up, beautiful jumpshot, once he polishes his skill set and puts it together watchout
weakness: not physical
reminds me of lamarcus aldridge/channing frye

Pondexter: I am most excited about this guy. He just looks awesome to me. His defense seemed rediculous to me, very explosive and able to stay with his man, gets to the FT line and rebounds well, i see him being a great lockdown wing defender soon
strengths: athleticism and toughness
weakness: ball control
reminds me of caron butler/ andre igudoula

yeah thornton looks good, he was attacking and grabbing rebounds, think he had 6, also im serious we havent had a 2 or 3 besides posey who could play good D and pondexter has it. he also shot 50& from the field and from 3pt

I'd be ecstatic to have Q-Pon starting by the end of the season. I'm excited about him and Brackins sounds like he could quickly back up West and eventually allow us to comfortably move on if D-West opts out, etc.

I would be very happy with Pon starting at the 3, i understand we have peja blah blah but our whole lineup is offense, we need an athletic wing + perimeter defender and pon fits the description

cp3
thornton
Pondexter
west
Okafor
then off the bench
collison
posey
peja
brackins
grey
i could live with this

Spot on analysis, man.

Here's their stats and feedback from the game:

http://www.nola.com/hornets/index.ss...ch_mont_3.html

Quote:
Brackins scored eight points, grabbed five rebounds and blocked a shot. Pondexter, who attacked from the offensive end for nearly the entire game, made 7-of-10 free throws before finishing with 14 points.

“I’m just happy the guys didn’t go out there and play afraid,’’ Coach Williams said. “They went out there and played. They just have to get comfortable each time they go out.’’

“We came up a little short today, and it kind of hurts,’’ said Pondexter, who was the 26th overall pick in last month's draft.

Shooting guard Marcus Thornton led the Hornets with 22 points, seven rebounds and three steals in 32 minutes. Point guard Darren Collison scored nine points with seven assists. With limited practice time, the Hornets worked exclusively from halfcourt sets.

“Hats off to all the guys on the team because they played hard,’’ Thornton said. “It showed how hard we have worked during minicamp.’’

"I thought we did a lot of good things,'' Collison said. "With the new coaching staff, I think everybody is committed. You can see that our defense is definitely improving.''
Marcus Thornton is destined for a breakout year this season now that he'll have the oppurtunity to be the full-time starter. Even though it was the first SL game, Quincy Pondexter seems the most ready out of the 2 rookies and probably has the best chance of starting right away considering what's already there at the SF position with Peja, Posey, and Wright.

No one seems to be talking about that center. I forget his name but he could replace Gray if he has decent defense.

I think his name is Brian Cusworth. He more than likely will since Gray is pursuing his FA options and the Hornets are already strapped for cash as it is so I doubt they'd unnecessarily throw $2-3 mil towards Gray when they can get someone much cheaper for his role.

i only watched first half, but Cusworth didnt impress me then(mighta had a good 2nd half)....i think tehchampion140 might be talking about #55 with the kyle korver hair, and last name starting with S, he was 4-5 when i had the game on

I'm most impressed with Hines. And I heard a pretty awesome stat that the only players in NCAA history to get 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, and 300 blocks are David Robinson, Shaq, Derrick Coleman, Alonzo Mourning, Tim Duncan, and Kyle Hines.

All but Hines were #1 overall picks. And Hines is the only one shorter than 6'10". Impressive. Very impressive. He's that kind of wide body, super strong, get under people with leverage and pull down the rebies we sorely need.

Also, he might not even be a full 6'6", but he's got a near 7'2" wingspan. That's just nuts.

Aubrey Coleman: Pop quiz: Who led the NCAA in scoring last season? That would be Coleman, who averaged 25.6 points per game at Houston. Despite being a fierce rebounder for his size, Coleman had a hard time shaking the critics who see him as an undersized, inefficient streetballer -- which means Summer League is a nearly perfect venue for Coleman to show off his talents.

who??

He's going to struggle, severely. Because he's being asked to play PG instead of his preferred SG. That's why he was so limited on offense last night.
