Jr's best chance to win was with his team mate Kasey Kahn, but be got cauight up in one of the late wrecks and Jr did good on his own. Thought Jr would end up sucked to the back, but he stuck his car under another teams bumper and made them drive.
Yeah in a perfect situation that would have been his best option, but they got stopped and restarted 3 or 4 times with Kennseth and Biffle holding off everyone else. Hamlin and Jr had to both know they had ZERO shot at passing those teammates on their own so why not team up and have a legit shot at the checker?

Yeah, I think he did the best he could with limited options. He figured if he could get Biffle around the 17, perhaps he'd have a chance to nose him out at the line - it was really his only option.
For some reason the 11 wasn't as strong at the end as it had been earlier. I was hoping Denny could get up there to push Dale but he just never got there.
Awww, that must have been sad for them to have to spend another night in their million dollar motor coach instead of taking the Gulfstream back to their private runway in Mooresville.
(Just kidding - I suspect you weren't just talking about the drivers).
Actually I know the Harvicks were stuck in the Pilots lounge all night long. At least that's what they were tweeting. I'm sure that the motor coaches had to be on the road to Phoenix pretty much ASAP.
And yeah anyone who needed to fly back last night was grounded. Drivers, Crew, Press, Officials.
Biffle really needs to work on his Super speedway game. Even DW had a comment about him earlier in the race. Pretty much said he was confused.
This was what Biffle tweeted after the race
Not really sure why people think I wouldn't pass @matt_kenseth17 for the win but I never lifted or touched the brakes for the last 2 laps!!
We get it you didn't lift...how about pulling out to make a move. There are no teammates on the last lap of the 500. It just looked like he didn't know what to do.

When you have one of the best super speedway drivers of this decade pushing you, there really is no confusion as to what your next move is. The only thing that should have been a problem is figuring which way and when Jr is gonna make his move. Jr stayed with him for several laps and he was right on his bumper. No excuse Biff.

I agree - Biffle's tweet even shows he doesn't understand plate racing. You aren't going to pass the guy by just keeping the pedal on the floor . . . everybody's pedal is on the floor.
You have to play the game. Especially in a 3-car breakaway, the guy in second has all the advantage. You drag the brake out of turn 2 to let the leader get a couple car lengths ahead of you and when the 3rd place car gets on your bumper, you pull out bringing him with you. You now have the whole backstretch and 3/4 to get your run and you overpower the leader when you get to him coming out of 4 and into the frontstretch. The only question then is whether the pusher can pull out and get you at the line. At least that's how it's played.
I think that's exactly what Jr. had in mind and he couldn't believe that Biffle wasn't doing it.
it didnt seem to mater who was behind pushing biff the whole race he couldnt seem to get good forward push on the outside. as fast as matt was I dont know if biff/jr would have caught him. jr/biff would have cause it seemed that who ever was in front of biff got a good push and jr did have a real fast car.

Some guys stayed in the back. Others stayed around the front, but never seemed to make the move on the outside. The outside just wasn't working that well at all. Even Smoke (who I came to the conclusion was not fighting that hard) couldn't get ahead or push anyone on the outside lane.
Is this indicative of the new style of super speedway racing? One main lane?

It's the package - they can tweek it pretty easily. They can open the cooling hole in the nose to allow a little more bump drafting, which I think would allow more sustained runs. The problem seemed to be that nobody could get much of a run going, especially on the outside.
I think it was everyone being too scared to bump. There was never this much space between cars in all the pack years combined. I'm sure they'll get it right, but I am bit surprised it is taking this long given all the practices during the off season and during this whole 2 week session.
Spencer called out Danica on Race Hub tonight. Saying she caused her own problems in the big wreck by overreacting. Pretty much what we were saying after it happened. Not only did she take herself out, she turned Ragan right into the driver side of the 48.
I've never really thought she has the edge to be a great driver. She gets spooked too easily (not that most of us wouldn't).
I've done some racing (not as fast as that) and if you aren't spooked once in a while your not doing it right. it takes some guts and skill to rub bumpers with someone going that fast with another car 2-3 feet to your left or right.

This! Exactly!!
I got the impression from interviews that Jr. and Biffle had discussed working together at the end and Jr. stuck with him expecting him to pull out on the back stretch and get pushed ahead of the #17 setting up Jr. and Biff coming out of turn 4 for Jr. to come around the Biff himself for the win. That is how it was going to play out in my mind as the race was winding down. When Biff never pulled out, Jr. did the only thing he could do and pulled out on his own to try and advance. Essentially, Biff insured Roush got the win, by not pulling out and keeping Jr. behind him.

I did dirt bike racing for a while (not professionally or anything) and I can certainly attest to a level of fear that heightens awareness, but I still just don't think she has it.
