Yeah, I only have one kid and she is 8. So, she really only watches stuff on Disney. Every now and then I find things like 5 episodes of Wizards of Waveryly Place recorded, but I just delete them. And, luckily, my wife doesn't watch any of that reality TV crap or those Glee type shows.

I've never had the issues that others are having with recording stopping you from changing channels. I think that only happens when you try to record two things and try to watch something else. That just never happens at may house.

I recently got the DirecTV whole home thing set up, too. But I got one of the new HR34 receivers that can record five shows at once, so the issue of having to cancel a recording to change channels is a thing of the past.
Having learned how to deal with DirecTV through years of Sunday Ticket, I just called them, told them I was going to cancel my service and move to FIOS cuz they were going to give me all new equipment and set up whole home. 30 minutes later, they waved the $400 fee for the HR34, the $150 hardware costs for whole home installation, some other $100 fee that I can't recall so it just cost me $99 for installation. He even found another $15/month worth of discounts he could get me.
Anyway, I'm loving it. One thing that's really nice is in the kitchen, I don't have internet access near the TV, but now internet (for the receivers) runs over the coax, so that TV is networked, too.

That HR34 sounds nice. I just got two new HR24s, which have a bigger hard drive, but still only 2 tuners. But with my 3 DVRs, I have 6 tuners to record at any given moment.
Unfortunately, I still end up with 2 or 3 copies of Desparate Housewives and The Goodwife whenever they're on.

I revel in the pleasure of cancelling home with the Karfatians or Project Runway. I absolutely giggle like a kid when I try to turn on the news and am rewarded with the blessing of ending the life of Bachelor 94.4 after only 2 minutes. In fact, nothing makes me happier than turning stopping the recording of Up All Night or Desperate Housewives.
You just need to enjoy yourself and then get 3 more DVRs and make her set them to record leaving yours alone in the Living Room for Football.

I have to wade through the forest of all the Real Housewives of Whatever on my DVR. I think that show is on every night, all night. Otherwise, DirecTV's whole home DVR is awesome.
If Apple pulls off this a la carte TV thing, the only tv app my wife will need is Bravo.

I have Directv and recently upgraded to the HR34 and whole house service and it's pretty awesome . Glitch free so far . I also extorted new equipment via threats of leaving , having been a subscriber since 1993 .

Before COX does this stuff they should look into getting a DVR that can record more than just 2 shows at a time!! just like every other cable provider out there! I hate the COX DVR!

I just had the Cox Whole Home DVR installed last week, even after hearing all of the negative comments. They have really worked a lot of the bugs out and heard horror stories about 8 hour installations. My installation took about 2 hours. Everything works extremely well..a lot of the bugs in the past may be because it is so customizable. The interface "trio" is faster than the past..especially anything on demand. You can still only DVR 2 things at once, but its accessible from any room in the house with the new cisco box. So far im really impressed and they waived the installation fee which was $60.

I got them to give me all new boxes for the whole home DVR for $99 installed. It took a few calls, but it was better than the $430 they wanted to charge me. Too bad I didn't know about the H34's.

You know, as bad as anime is, it's worth it since it apparently stops my wife from watching Deseperate Housewives and Glee.

I read somewhere that you can actually have up to five of the boxes that record, so technically you can record up to 10 things at once.
Edit - and they will talk to each other, meaning all programs are accessable everywhere in the house.
