Bay/Waveland suggestions
ok, so we've got a groupon for the Bay St Louis Casino for the Tues-Thurs after Memorial Day
i am looking for bfast/dinner recommendations (would prefer to stay on the bay side and not venture toward biloxi) local and not too $$
also looking for fishing for my 4yr old and me - i know the pier is open, but i think that's too big for him -- is Buccaneer open? (wavepool) fishing in buccaneer?
also is there cooking out on the beach?

Local breakfast outside of the casino you want to go to The Buttercup or The Mockignbird Cafe. The Buttercup does their version of Eggs Benedict that is amazing but it may only be for Sunday brunch. The Mockingbird is a coffee shop with a small menu. It's a very unique place and worth checking out. They also have live music on Thursday nights and kids are always welcome. Both places are in Olde Town Bay Saint Louis where there are a bunch of shops and right down the road from the beach.
There are tons of good places for dinner. For entrees go to Trapani's or South Beach. Both are at the end of Main Street on the beach. Not sure what you consider pricey but both of those places are a little more than the average place around here. But they also have po-boys and sandwiches. Rickey's in BSL is good as well. No scenery but not as expensive either. If you want something simple like a fried seafood platter or po-boy, go to KG's on the corner of Hwy 603 and Hwy 90. Both good and affordable.
For fishing, if you're not going to the pier, just take him to the seawall in either BSL or Clermont Harbor by Buccaneer. Drive til you see people and ask if they're catching anything. If you go by Buccaneer, pick up a couple crab nets. They usually catch a few. The only thing open inside of Buccaneer is the campground and the playground, which the little one will probably like. It's pretty big. They just now began rebuilding the wave pool and the water slides.
As far as I know, you can cook on the beach. Just clean up your mess. Even if it isn't we have no beach patrol so unless a cop sees you, and cares enough to stop you, which is highly unlikely, you'll be fine.
Anymore questions just ask.

good stuff - thanks so much
and i did think of some questions after i wrote this
when i was little (we had a house over there) we used to go to a place called Hickory Creek - one place in particular that was white beach near a tire swing
do you know this place? i have no perspective on how close it might be or how to get there
also what about canoe rentals in the area?
thanks again

Hickory Creek....doesn't sound familiar but I would imagine it's probably somewhere in the northern part of the country on the river somewhere. Where was your house? Canoe rentals.....I don't know of any places, though I'm sure they exist, but I do know that you can rent tubes and go tubing. I'm not sure of the names of the places but a search should provide some results.
I'll add to the list of things to do with the little one....take him to the duck pond by the train depot. It's not very big but the ducks and geese have gotten very used to people and he will be able to feed them by hand. And right across the street is another playground.

I keep remembering things.....right across from The Buttercup is Sloppy Dog's. Very good hot dogs. And behind that, in the same building is The Ugly Pirate. It's a very small pizza joint that my buddy owns. The pizza is awesome.
There is also a small water park on the corner of 603 and 90. After 4 it's only $10. They have a couple slides, lazy river, putt putt, and a pool. The kids love it.

The store has been closed for a very long time....possibly before I was born. The pier actually is rebuilt but honestly I've never caught a fish off of it.

The store on Dunbar was called Yankee Doodle and Trapani's is really good. I agree with Budro on all his recs for eating out in THE BAY. Just across the bridge in "THE PASS" is Pirates cove(good poor boys), Chili Willys(Awesome thin crust pizza cooked in a oven not on a conveyor belt), across the street is a new place called HOOKS, good seafood. All this is only about 10 minutes from "THE BAY". right by the harbor.

Out on 603 toward Kiln there is a place called Cuzz"s I heard the food is very good. Also there is another place at Pass harbor to eat. A friend and I used to go there and catch shrimp with our cast nets

Cuz's is decent as well. Boiled seafood is tops. Not really even that close to The Kill but it is in the same direction. Harbor View used to be right across from the harbor and it's one of my favorite places to eat. Is that what you're thinking about?
Shaggy's is also in the harbor. It's a good spot for burgers and beers. They have a pretty good entree menu as well.

Shaggy's is the place I was talking about. I miss the times I spent at the harbor throwing my net. It was nothing too catch 15 pounds of shrimp.
Have you tried the new White Cap since it reopened?
