We also own a daycare so there are lots of children of all ages involved here. We want a 2nd dog that will fit in and be a part of the family. We took in a lab last year but turns out she was not all lab, barked constantly and aggressively at the neighbors dog, including trying to chew through the fence to get at them, and would shake when the little kids were around. She was a beautiful animal, but we couldn't risk the liability so we had to adopt her out. So please any dog you recommend make sure that they meet these parameters. I don't want to buy a dog as I feel there are just too many good dogs that need a home out there.

I'm still waiting to hear from my friends who are trainers, but not sure if the Dachshund is going to work out with Jolene being a hunting dog.
Is there any certain type of dog you're looking for? I've been volunteering at the shelter and fostering for about 4 years now and I can tell you I have seen literally almost every breed of dog walk thru that door. I've had St. Bernard's, 2 Bloodhounds, countless labs (black yellow and brown), Mastiffs, you name it! I know I can find you whatever you are looking for.
One of my favorites at the shelter right now is Taz. He's a shepherd/lab mix. Very sweet! 4-5 yrs old, 103 lbs (overweight!). Needs a good home.
Its harder for the older dogs (over 4 or 5 years old) to get adopted because most people want puppies. They don't realize that when you adopt a dog thats middle age, you're getting a dog that is already calm and (most of the time) not destructive. We only foster older dogs just because they are constantly passed over at the shelter.
If anyone out there is looking for a dog or cat, I urge you to please consider adopting.

I tell ya I don't have a preference in breed. My only concern is how they relate to children and first impressions. For instance if a parent walks into my home and sees a pit bull they will tend to not leave their children with me because of the reputation. I personally have had pitbulls as a kid and they were amazing dogs. I know that more than anything dogs behave how they are raised. So ultimately I want a dog that will relate well with children and other dogs as we have 11 dogs in the cul de sac I live in. I prefer a yellow lab, but I won't pay 350 dollars for a puppy when there are so many dogs that need a home.

Ok guys, we are going to find Semper another great rescue dog since Jolene will probably not work with his weenie dog. In the meantime, we need to keep networking and get Jolene adopted before her number is called...

Thanks! Not sure. We're day to day at this point. I'm confident that she's safe until at least Saturday but anything after that doesn't look good. I can't take her into foster care at my house because I have a cat. Even a foster in the Baton Rouge area would help. We hold successful adoption events every weekend so it's most of the time not a long term foster.

Semper, if you know anyone else in WI interested in a rescue dog, we could always send them on the same transport as we would send yours. Just in case you come across anyone local who's interested.

great point Breesway.. i love my Dreux Brees (Boston Terrier), but i adopted him at 6 mos. old and he was out-of-control hyper.. he's better now, but still kind of crazy at 2.5 yrs old.. i wouldn't trade him for any other dog, but if i knew back then what i know now, i'd have been much more likely to consider an older or middle aged pet.. keep up the great work.

The latest vibe I'm getting is that she has until Sunday. I have one adoption event I can bring her to. With the lack of interest everywhere I've posted her online, I think the adoption event on Saturday may be the last chance.

Big Dan and Little Ann were Redbone coonhounds, not Blueticks.
And you missed an awesome reading experience. That was a great book.
