It is a boring story.

Well that's a reasonable take I suppose. Though I'm not sure a mimicking of monetary symbols explains some of the extent to which we have seen. Look, I'm not claiming any sort of conspiracy or secret society or whatever. I just think it is interesting that some of these artists have aligned themselves with those ideas and images.

Do you know how a black dude can convince a bunch of corn-fed, midwestern white folks to listen to crummy music?
Any idea how to make some backwoods Alabama redneck talk about Beyonce?
You want to know how to market black things to white folks?
Slap a pentagram on it and dress it in black leather.
SOLD!

How does that help sell to white people? Maybe it does. I guess I'm not the target audience. Just curious as to why.

The African-American and hip hop community has been obsessed with illuminati conspiracy theories for decades. It's rooted in NYC and the strong presence the Black Isrealites and other paranoia groups have in certain neighborhoods.
Once the Internet hit these communities, it exploded. Jay-Z grew up with these guys on every corner.
Google the rapper Prodigy from Mobb Deep. He has been talking this nonsense for 20 years.
It isn't about enticing white people as much as a general trolling of society.
Conspiracy theories came out claiming Jay-Z is one of the most powerful people in the world due to his high ranking in the Illuminatti.
Given that boasting is the very root of hip hop and powerful figures have always been adopted by hip hop artists as alter egos, why wouldn't Jay-Z run with it?

Just for the sake of discussion, let's assume that Beyonce and Jay-Z really are Satanists.
So what?
What difference would it make?
Those who are entertained by them will continue to buy their music.
Those who aren't entertained by them will continue to ignore them.
Now what?

Same as Black Sabbath, Kiss or Slayer.
Only modernized for hip hop sales.

OP, you don't think it's highly more likely that she has no idea what those symbols mean?

Good clean Christians, right?
The video was laughable. Stop trying to make it serious.

Not a chance. I explained why.

Good post.. Ill also add that for better or worse the hunger for power and influence is firmly ingrained into hip hop, the genre is mired in ego infatuation. Projecting the image of someone who pulls the strings is a major part of what they do, and they use scarface/godfather mafia imagery for the same reasons as illuminati imagery, because it has the connotation of a powerful elite group that "calls the shots" for the world. And the eye of Horus is on our money (for those that didn't know, most rappers have obsession with $). A demonic explanation for this phenomenon is very far fetched, religious zealots being the only people who would find it a credible theory.

I agree with that possibility. I was saying that after the initial conspiracy theories surfaced, Jay-Z and the Roca family ran with the hype.
This is a really big deal in the hip hop community. Some of the guys I work with talk about it all day.
I think Jay-Z, Beyonce and their team intentionally fuel the fire. I don't think it is an accident that these symbols are more present now than earlier in their careers.
Most people, simply by engaging in culture, know that an elongated goat head represents something eerie.
I assume a stylist approached Beyonce and framed it as " you know, playing on all the illuminati hoopla" and its simply an exploitable avenue for those involved.

I'm not trying to make the video serious, for Pete's sake. I still haven't watched it because I thought I was trying to pull this into an actual thought. Perhaps I'm not expressing myself clearly.
I'm not saying Beyonce or any hip hop artist is Satanic. I'm not saying Black Sabbath or Ozzy was Christian. (randy rhoads ftw) I'm saying that at no point as a fan of a band like that did I take them very seriously. (Spinal Tap and all that)
I'm not a fan of hip hop for the most part and I don't follow its biggest stars. But it's pretty clear from what I have seen that someone like Kanye West is 1. an idiot and 2. takes himself seriously. I just find it interesting that someone like that uses such imagery. I've never associated that genre with occult type pop culture. Heavy Metal? Sure. Candy coated hip hop? Not so much.
I find GhostFace's posts in this thread quite fascinating. Thank you.
Is it not interesting at all? Really?
That's all I'm saying and the straw man that so many in this thread have used to put me in my place is one of the reasons SR is not as good as it could be. Why do people insist on categorizing every last thing into opposing sides from which to argue? Have I really posted anything here that would suggest I'm buying into some grand illuminati conspiracy orchestrated by Jay-Z? I don't think I have. Yet so many are incapable of seeing anything but opposing extremes that a simple discussion cannot be tolerated. Disappointing.
