Games of the XXX Olympiad-London

I always love me the Olympics, especially when I have some homegrown talent to root for.
Justin Gatlin took a big step at the Trials in Eugene, OR over the weekend winning the 100M in 9.80
Justin Gatlin beats Tyson Gay in 100 final at trials

He has been stirring it up a bit with the Jamaican world record holder, Usain Bolt.

London Olympics 2012: Justin Gatlin: I'm not coming to London to win bronze or silver, I want Bolt's gold! | Mail Online

With Asafa Powell and Tyson Gay also likely to make the finals, this race will certainly garner huge interest.

Of course, I'll be watching as much beach volleyball at work that I can get away with. Swimming is one of my favorite olympic competitions.

I like to watch rowing, boxing, wrestling and ping pong (errr, table tennis).

Anybody else have some local athletes they are rooting for?

Here's what their competing for:

They might want to rethink using roman numerals for this Olympics. When I saw the thread title, my mind instantly went somewhere else.

Yeah, there are going to be a lot of people crying bait and switch when they turn to the channels carrying the games.

I've been watching as much of the Trials as I can. They continue this week for anyone interested. Either on NBC or NBCSN. For a rooting interest, with the LSU angle, I'll pull a little harder for Lolo Jones in the 100m hurdles. Long jumper Marquis Goodwin earned his way onto Team USA, and he went to the high school right across the lake from me.

so you thought it was going to be about a movie with Vin Diesil or Ice Cube too?

I love the Olympics but it is not the same as when I was a kid. Is it that way for anyone else old enough to remember when the USSR was the enemy?

For me, China is the new USSR. They dominate in the diving and gymnastic events.

Here's the official website for anyone interested: http://www.teamusa.org/

I was pulling for New Iberia, La native Morgann LeLeux in women's pole vault. She's only a 19 year old freshman but won the SEC Championships and placed 2nd at the NCAA Championships. She started well at the Olympic Trials in Eugene, OR but fell short of beating the Pros. These photos are from the Trials on Sunday.

Are full body suits the new "in thing"? If so, I may be watching a whole lot less pole vaulting.

Naw, the three ladies who won spots on the team all wore 2 piece, skimpy, outfits. My wife called them bikinies, but they weren't. However, close.
This was the first time I've seen Morgan wear that outfit. Univ of Georgia must have made her wear it. I dunno, but I'll ask her.
This is a photo I took of Morgann when she won the SEC title last month.

I love the Olympics and will be watching most of it, but I like swimming and gymnastics the best, even though I prefer the winter games. We took a trip to Italy during the winter Olympics a few years ago, it was fun, but really expensive and they have it set up that you can only get tickets and rooms through their own agencies.

Georgia required that she wear team outfit. This was chosen due to it being cold up there.

It's called, "the back design of the Bronze, Silver and Gold medals".
