Why do you bend over when you eat a "small" Burger King Meal?!
We just started a rally at McDonald's to fight against the plastic Ronald taking too much room on the bench outside. You can't fit two people on the bench?!! It's downright rude and possibly not ADA compliant(checking into that.) Please take your victory fights to help us with ours. We have started paying with all change to slow the lunchtime line down.

To go a step further, it has been stated many times on this site that more poor people eat fast foods than any other group. So here we have a rich greedy corporation taking advantage of the poor in the country and I am an ******* for trying to fight the corporation.
I understand the feelings of many in this thread. It is not just about the money. It is the the damn principle. Until enough people stand up, nothing will ever change. I do not think it is right to complain about greedy companies and at the same time, do nothing to question them or call them out. BK is screwing millions of people everyday and now I am being told to stop holding up the drive through?
Years ago, I believe it was the National Food stores that would put a broom near the register. Every customer that went through checkout with a lot of items was charged for the broom. If they were caught, the store would simply apologize stating that they thought the broom was for the customer. When enough people complained, the company was forced to stop their stealing.
In my mind, BK has been stealing from me for years. Shame on me for never catching it but now that I have, I will not allow it to happen again. yes, I could just specify a small but that will not solve the problem. I figure if I complain at one store often enough, the management will change their practices. If they decide not to, then they will continue giving me medium drinks and fries for the price of a small.
|
You keep saying you're getting screwed, when in reality you're getting exactly what you paid for. If you'd specify you want the small you'd get the small and pay for the small. It's a simple answer to a dumb question. Quite frankly, it looks like you have an issue with the way the menu board reads, and you think you can have it your way...

i can relate BHM--i've been known to raise a stink when my drive-thru experience goes poorly.
i've learned to order like this---
"I'll have a #2, regular size with a dr pepper to drink. that's all."
i always get the smallest size and im not asked to buy a dessert or donate to the miracle fat kids network.

Look at the menu board. How much is a #1? If they want to make the medium size the default size then they need to change the board. I did not request anything other than a #1.
And it is not just 60 cents. Looking back at how many times I have eaten there in the last 20 plus years, how many times have they taken an extra 60 cents.
Sure, I can just specify a small from now own but they will continue this practice and continue taking peoples' money with their shady practice. I know that I will probably not change the corporate policy but I might be able to get a few local stores to change their training or their policy.

I remember when a combo was 2.99 and Super Size or King Size was only an extra 40cts and the Whopper of course was actually tasty.

there are 3 different prices for a #1 depending on the size you order
it's right there on the menu

I've cut fast food out of my diet completely. But with 3 kids its difficult to avoid for them when we don't have time to feed them at home. I've sometimes wondered why the total was higher than what I would quick add in my head while ordering, but never bothered to compare the receipt to the menu. This adds up over time and is a definitely bait & switch by fat food corporations if you don't word your order in the right way.
Do what someone suggested earlier and start a Facebook group, better yet post this on BK's Facebook wall, Burger King | Facebook
The days of social media allow something like this to spread like wildfire. You could cost them many more headaches and get quicker results from the corporate level with a Facebook PR ****storm than making one local store refund you 60¢ a few times a week.
And secondly, stop eating that ****!

Yeah, I don't get it. There are 3 prices, and they by default give you the middle one.
You are complaining that they are giving you the medium and charging you for the medium. Thats not getting ripped off.
Now, you wanting a refund of your 60cents while still keeping the medium fries and drink, thats some shady stuff.

I get the point of the OP but...
"Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity"
this is not a ploy by BK to trick you into a larger size. What they are guilty of is forcing employees into a sales pitch. They are told that they have to ask if you want a medium or large. The problem is translation to the new register clerks.
"would you like to upsize that to medium or large"
becomes
"which do you want: medium or large"
it's not malice it is just low education level employees and in the case of BK, I can assure you that it is also low education managers. If BK got the top down concept, then they could have been bigger than McD's
I get your point and if there was a chance that you would actually change anything in a badly run business then I would say fire away. But you are swimming against the tide (and pissing the guy behind you off)

Did you know that unless a sign says not to, you can turn right on red?
Or do you sit there also, waiting for a dust covered worker to erect a sign justifying your right turn?
If you bought a new tv and the showroom picture setting was on "vivid" but you hooked it up and the default was "standard."
Do you:
A- Fall to your knees and cry?
B- Call the help line and give some poor worker a bunch of crap every time you turn the tv on?
C- Make an adult decision and set your tv to "vivid?"
D- Choose A and B, then make a thread about it?
Sometimes the default options in life require you to make an adult decision.
In either of the scenarios, you are the reason I am waiting in line. Thanks a lot freedom fighter.

I estimate that not being a jerk in life and getting my panties in a bunch over small things probably costs me about $20 a month on average. Money well spent.

I understand your complaint, but I do not understand why you have gone so far out of the way to inconvenience other customers in line behind you and posted 5 pages worth of material to display your displeasure in Burger Kings practices. Wouldn't this have been better suited in an e-mail or letter to BK?
I'm not trying to be rude but after reading through the pages, your posts are coming off as mostly being whiny. The majority of the people are disagreeing with you and suggesting you simply order a "Small #1" and be done with it; which is what you should do anyways knowing they are charging your for a medium. I mean if you really wanted to make us forum member aware you could have easily said to us that you noticed BK seems to charge medium prices at default so make sure you specify what size you want when you order if you do not want to be charged extra. Instead you went to a whole new level on the issue. I normally don't care to post on this kind of crap, but I could not help myself this time. Not sure why.
I generally bring my lunch to work and on the off day if I happen to not I will go to Burger King on the rare occasion; mostly I will go to Subway though. However, when I pull up to the drive through and order anything. I will also say "I'd like a small #2 with cheese and a Coke." to avoid any issues.
The kicker here is, is that at EVERY drive through they tell you after you have ordered your meal what the amount you are paying is going to be. If you are being over charged or defaulted to a medium size as you are saying, this is where you should be aware ahead of time and simply state back into the ordering box "I'm sorry, but I wanted a small not a medium." Then they can correct your order ahead of time so you don't have to sit at the drive through window and shove the receipt into the face of the employee at the window and complain about being charged for $.60 extra while holding up the line.
The annoying thing is, is that YOU ALREADY KNOW AHEAD OF TIME THEY ARE GOING TO DEFAULT YOU TO THE MEDIUM SIZE YET YOU LET IT HAPPEN OVER AND OVER SO YOU CAN ***** ABOUT THE SIXTY CENTS EXTRA THEY CHARGED YOU UP AT THE WINDOW. This almost makes it sound like you get a rise out of complaining about something so pointless as you seem to have done it multiple times.
Again...5 pages of this. Most high level corporations do something similar in ways of getting more money out of the consumer and that is not going to change. Ever.
Don't like it? Learn to live with it while being smart to get around it or let them play you for a fool which they have apparently been doing to you for years as you say. As for me? I'll continue ordering my SMALL # whateveritisiwant and not let BK take any extra money away from me that I don't want them to. There are more important things for you to worry about.
