Correction, this is Jesuit's State High School Championship team. Not a team of city all-stars.

It is not the same thing. The Retif Oil team IS an all-star team comprised of the best players from their most recent two years of high school baseball; not from a group of local players that live in the area. It is their State Championship from the summer Legion season, not prep (high school) season; big difference.
Senior Legion allows players to play that are within a given age, up to age 19 for their current baseball season age. Retif allowed 5-6 players return from the Jesuit high school baseball State Championship team from 2011 return this summer to play, which is perfectly within the rules. A number of which, have played Jr. College baseball for one season. That is a tremendous advantage when competing in summer legion baseball, mostly against other Legion teams that primarily, for the most part, only compete with current varsity players and or recently graduated varsity players. Not players that have already played one year of Jr. College or College baseball. Huge advantage, but within the rules. They simply have a different philosophy about how they fill out their summer roster for legion. The legion teams in the metro area are all made up of players from a given school. They are not made up of players from multiple schools, or area, unless they are an independent team, sponsored for the most part, by a American Legion post. Generally, high school coaches use legion to develop players for the following high school prep season. Different strokes for different folks. For Retif Oil, they prefer to have a preference of allowing players to return to play, after already having played a year of college....etc.
Props to them. They have a terrific chance to win the Legion World Series this summer. Many very quality kids on that team, not only as players, but as just good well rounded kids.
Gibbs is a heck of a pitcher. He has only lost like 2-3 games as a starting pitcher in the last two prep seasons and summer legion seasons combined. He probably is close to 50-3 over that time frame.
Good luck to the Jays (Retif Oil).

They squeaked by Omaha by scoring 5 in the bottom of the 8th. Won 8-7.
Play at 9 PM tonight.

Retif (Jesuit) lost last night to Bellevue, WA 10-6.
They will play for the title tonight @ 8:30 vs either Bellevue or Brooklawn, NJ. Not sure if they just have to win one game for the title of if it's a best of 3.
Tonights game can be seen on ESPN3.

According to Wikipedia (only place I could find a list), past local winners include:
1932-New Orleans, LA
1946-New Orleans, LA 125
1960-New Orleans, LA 125
2006-Metairie, LA Post 175
The 1960 and either the '32 or the '46 (probably '46) were also teams from Jesuit.

The remaining schedule ( http://www.legion.org/uploads/baseba...lws/alws.htm):
Game 14 Tues. (8/21) 5:00PM Brooklawn, NJ vs. Bellevue, WA
Game 15 8:30 PM New Orleans, LA vs. Winner Game 14 (CHAMPIONSHIP GAME)
Here's hoping for a 20-inning pitcherpalooza at the NJ-WA game tonight.

1946 and 1960 was Jesuit.
2006 was Rummel.
I have no clue about the 1932 one, but there werent many high schools in New Orleans in 1932, so there's a good chance that was Jesuit too. The only other boys high schools that are that old I can think of are Jesuit, Holy Cross, St.Aloysius (Brother Martin), Warren Easton, and maybe John McDonough.
