They won't take your vehicle and you can't see a judge. It's considered a civil violation, not criminal.

This^^^
In Texas the red light camera company has to be registered as a private investigations firm. Once company was not and they made them throw all of the tickets out. Other fight on the constitutional grounds that you be allowed to confront your accuser in court. Since it is a civil thing you cannot go to court over it as a criminal issue. It is a very finely woven issue.
Your call on this. I have one that I did not pay over two years ago for $75. They have not really tried to collect and it has not shown up on any credit report (of course, now that I have said that...). I made a legal right on red, the video showed that I came to a complete stop, although the stop was short - maybe 2 seconds.

My wife got the same ticket. We had to pay because you must come to a full stop for 10 secs or more or you gonna get a ticket. we watched the video and she only stopped for about 2 sec.

That's bull if you are talking about LA. Whoever told you that either lied or didn't know the law. There is no time limit in the law. All the law says is that you have to come to a complete stop. Now, it's possible that the private company that administers the tickets takes that position, but it's not the law.

We don't have those in Alabama, yet at least, but quick question. Since they have to prove it was you actually driving the car, what is to stop someone from just driving around with a ski mask on?

The judge pulled up the video but couldn’t find any on a website. They have to prove you were driving the car, that burden of proof is on them. Without any video, I got out of it. You can try it if you want but it really was a technical error. Good luck nonetheless.

If you are out of town do they have access to your info, and just mail it to you...or is that a "loophole?"

I beat my illegal right on red by saying an emergency vehicle was approaching and I turned without stopping b/c I was not sure which direction the vehicle was headed. They played the video several times looking for the reflection of flashing lights, but could not prove it either way. Walked away owing nadda.
