Police do not punish criminals. The courts and jails do that part.
Lengthening yellow lights will simply allow people to run more lights because they know the yellow cycle is longer and they think they have more time to go through the intersection before it turns red. I have seen this in Lafayette. The yellow cycle turning left onto Evangeline Thruways fro Pinhook is unusually long. The result, even more cars try and go through the yellow.
I understand the complaints about the cameras but they allow some bad and dangerous driver behavior to be checked with out the use of police manpower. This allows the police to do other more important things. I drive on the road for a living and knock on wood, I have not received a camera ticket since they were installed in Lafayette.
I'm not bragging, just sayin. I am MUCH more aware of school zones, speed limits and the dangers of red light runners now. The driving behavior of many has been positively influenced with out costing the city a penny. If it saves a few lives then it was certainly worth it in my opinion.
It is not that hard to come to a complete stop and look around before turning right on red. If we allow people to almost stop, then they will begin kinda stopping which will lead to just slowing down...
It is human behavior.

They have no collection enforcement. The invoice will be sold to a collection agency who will send letters and make a couple of phone calls. Collection agencies will not send debt of less than $500 to a credit reporting agency and if they should, all you have to do is report that you had no contract with Redflex.

Interesting. I don't remember whether I came to a complete stop or not. I'm not inclined to log in to their website to see the video. Plausible deniability. I really can't stand these cameras, not because I'm a dangerous driver, but because they are void of human judgement and they are run by a private company to collect money from upstanding citizens who will pay. And also because of the double standard in the city of New Orleans. Make no mistake. This is not about making intersections safer. This is about making money. We have broken crime cameras all over the city yet the traffic cameras work with efficiency. A 2 year old was shot near a second line yesterday. My bet is that there are broken crime cameras in the area.

There is hard evidence out there that intersections with traffic cameras actually have more accidents after the cameras are in place then before they are in place.

I cannot believe that these people can by with this kind of stuff. I was more than happy to pay the fine to keep it off of my insurance, but still.

LOL ... pretty much same exact thing happened to me back in 1984 while passing through Tickfaw, LA. Paid cash and in went in their hip pocket ...

Washington says he plans to amend the suit to also seek refunds for all tickets issued in the past.

I got 2 of those tickets in both of my cars. It's bull**** but they will give you tickets for it unless you make a complete stop and wait until you turn. I've even heard that you can get a ticket for stopping past the white lines on the ground.

I don't know about that. But I know a friend of mine was so fed up with these cameras that one day she took off her license plate and purposely blew through various cameras, holding her arm out the car and flicking off each one of them. That was earlier this year, and haven't seen a single ticket yet.

Paulette Irons decision was temporarily on hold until a superior court reviews it, as early as Monday. Knowing the City of New Orleans, they will try to postpone having a decision as long as possible.

Yep, my understanding is that is a complete stop -- and cops have told me that the look for exactly what you described to tell that it is a complete stop. But maybe these cameraoverlords set a different criteria to determine whether it was a complete stop. IDK, bunchathieves.
