I was trying that. The problem is regardless of your response, they can tag your car for a boot or to be towed. I went ahead and payed it, but I'm really upset about it, especially after seeing the video. By all reasonable and human judgement, I came to a stop. No cop would have EVER pulled me over for it. But I guess it fits within the lines of their violation standards for the camera.
I wish the city would just tax me more. At least it'd be honest. It makes me want to leave New Orleans. The city government has absolutely no regard for productive citizens who make what little we have of an economy work.

Not to mention, NO probably only sees a tiny percentage of the fine. When we had them here in NC, a study was done and for a $50 fine, the state was getting under a dollar of that.

No offense, but I'm glad they ticketed you for that. I don't care if someone smokes, but they should keep their litter in the car.

the lil lady got one in the mail last week. it really is a shame. still no answers to this dilemma? same situation, stopped, but apparently not to the cameras liking.
as much as i love the city, and people of it, city hall really does drive me nuts sometimes.

Thank god st. tammany doesn't have traffic cameras. Or at least the ones that are meant for giving people tickets.

In Canada(at least in my area) we can turn on red lights without really stopping at all, nobody ever comes to a complete stop. Always like 10km/h roll through the right turn on a red, even in Toronto.

This is what I used to think, but the city gets the vast majority of the fine. so Brennan, thanks for helping to keep my taxes down lol.

Not to go all Truck Man on you, but I have inside sources. I'm not sure if the payment information is public and am too lazy to look. Due to professional restrictions, I can't divulge any further.

The payment information certainly should be public, but I've never seen it posted or reported anywhere.
trunkman's sources have indicated to me that the contractor receives something in the neighborhood of $15-$20 per paid ticket, with the rest of the fines going directly to the city.

Most of the fine goes to the state. A portion goes to the city. The company owning the cameras has a set fee they receive for each infraction. Traffic cameras were being considered here and if I'm not mistaken it was less than $10 a citation. For some reason i really want to say it was $1.

I don't know if you're talking about your own city, but no part of the New Orleans traffic camera revenues goes to the state of Louisiana.

Would you be able to explain why any politician in any city would sign off on a horrifically unpopular project for a mere $1 or $10 a ticket?
That would be signing your own political death warrant.
