Without actually using that exact camera, I can say that 12mp is way to much for a point&shoot, or more specifically for a lens that small. That said, you should be able to squeze out some decent pics from it if you can go manual, while watching your shutter speed and ISO. The best P&S I ever seen was my old Fuji F30. It was 6mp, and the pictures (if done right) could hold their own compared to that from consumer dslr's. Unfortunately it crapped out on me last year.
I wouldn't agree with that.
The Panasonic Lumix and the Canon G10/11 are arguably the best point and shoot cameras on the market and are used by pro's as their carry-around cameras. Both can produce professional grade images.

Wish I'd known that two weeks ago. I got the SX120 but so far like it.
Ya'll scared to battle it out with thumbs? Each submit 3 favorite pics in a new thread.
Oh I am just joshing, but really Severum and Dubya what are some of your favorite pics you have taken?
Severum, these are probably frivolous to you, but the pics of your dog are some of the coolest pics I've ever seen. I can see that dog smiling. Awesome.
Dubya your photos are all great, but some of your sports photos are the best I've ever seen and I am being 100% honest.
Disclaimer: I fully admit that I know nothing about photography and what I do know is Cindy Sherman type stuff.
